I'm looking into purchasing a Z scale train set and I would like to purchase a remote (wireless) transformer fot it. What type should I start with? Any ideas? Back to the original question. I run my layout on DCC. I use a Zephyr for power and plug a DT400 into it. Not exactly wireless, but my layout is only 3' square and I don't need anymore. You can use a wireless version of the DT400 to achieve what you want.

Now that AZL has released the standard cab SD70, is it possible that the future SD45 trucks can be swapped to turn one into an SD60? I am of course assuming that the SD45 will use the same proven mechanicals.
I am envisioning a fleet of Oakway SD60's pulling coal trains. How about it AZL?!
Edit: I guess I am forgetting about the blower housing on the SD60 that would require some tooling changes, or scratchbuilding on our part.

Hit the F0 key on your controller. That turns the lights on and off. If that doesn't work, a decoder reset might help.

Check to make sure you don't have them turned off by hitting the F0 key on your DCC controller.

The GP38, GP30 and RDC already have the "new" chassis and motor - so it really wouldn't make sense to offer the same drive train as an "upgrade" Actually I was not thinking of it as an upgrade. I have a GP38 high-hood conversion body and would rather not sacrifice a perfectly good engine if I could just buy the chassis and motor for it. Please consider offering some of your parts for those of us who want to bash a bit.

For those of you who want an easy DCC upgrade, we intend to offer the chassis / trucks (working locomotive without a locomotive shell) for a reasonable fee. Will you be doing this for other models? GP38, GP30, and RDC?

I have picked up a few engines on Evil-bay, but had better luck with AZL dealers. While I will pay a good price for a customized engine, I am not willing to pay inflated prices for products that are temporarily out of stock.

I have never had any grinding noise, but the contact between the truck and frame needs to be clean or it will stall and lurch.

Does AZL plan to offer the SD70 w/decoder installed?

I have 3 GP-38's, and 1 GP-30. Two of the 38's have a limited top speed and I run them as a set. The other, like my GP-30 runs the full range of the throttle. These units are kept paired as they do run well together. I assign them to my priority freights. I don't mind the limited top end on the two 38's as they now have a much more prototypical speed. All of these units have a fantastic low speed and will crawl smoothly at minimum throttle. I have noticed that after periods of inactivity, that all of mine need some warmup time. Afterwards they run faster. The two slower GP-38's didn't get the same break in as the faster as I was so anxious to run them. That might have something to do with the speed difference, or it could just be that batch of motors were manufactured slightly different. I also have HO scale engines that have speed ranges all over the board. So this is not something new to me.
If your not happy, consider trading your chassis with someone who doesn't want the higher top speed.

One thing to be especially careful with is ballast around the switch mechanism. I ballast up to, but not on the area around the slide switch and the points. before you add any adhesives around the turnout, make note of where the slide mechanism is. If you get any glue or adhesive too close, you will have to disassemble and clean the slide switch.

The SD45 will be a 2015 release. Sincerely, Hans (AZL) Burlington Northern please! Perhaps some Hustle Muscle in Great Northern and the BN repaint too.
