Hi , I live in Dommelen, the Netherlands (Europe). I switched from HO to Z-scale in the late 80-ties and started of with German rolling stock. After visiting Denver Co, I got infected by the US Z-scale virus. In 2007 I started building my US-style switching layout. Untill now the layout is under construction, because I started kitbashing and scratchbuilding rolling stock. See next pictures of my renumbered D&RGW GP30 and kitbashed GP40 (based on the GP38).

great to see the wide vision caboose. Please make the leaf spring trucks available as 'spare'part. These will look better that the ones I bashed for my scratch build wide vision cabose..
My comment to the engineering drawing: double check the roof layout. The long side is ok, but the short side is the wrong way arround. The roof should be the same on both sides of the copula. The drawing shows the roof sides mirrored. The short roof of the Santa Fe caboose is wrong in may opinion. (at least if it was a 01500-01514 D&RGW caboose or GN caboose, thought these roofs were all the same)

Little space requirements is one of the biggests advantages of Z scale. Currently I only have a small switching layout 12" x 3' .. and still not ready :-). Little hobby space and not being able to work on scenery, got me into Z scratchbuilding of rolling stock. Here comes an other advantage: you need less detail to get a realistic looking model, compaired to HO. So, meanwhile I have my SW1000 for switching cars on my layout :-). ...but I would like to see an AZL GP60 ....it's shell would fit on a GP38-2 chassis. It might be an nice addition to the SD70.

It makes me happy that AZL is thinking this way about new projects :-) . I have seen different at other brands.

...ACF 2-bay hoppers should be easy to derive from the 3-bay ones. /Frank

My undec GP38-2 (actually a GP40-2 now) didn't run properly forward... In China they have used a tacky grease.. Trucks and worms were dirty and tacky. I took appart the chasis and have cleaned the chassis parts halves, worms and trucks (just remomved trucks, not dis-assembled them) in an ultra sonic cleaner. After having it re-lubed it runs great now! Speed is now similar to my GP30. My advice: get yourself such a small juwelery ultrasonic cleaner.

I'll guess you have to look for the right suppliers and you have to compare similar products with each other. There are also good products comming from China. It can take longer and cost more effort to eventually get to the right quallity level. The Chinese culture and language differece is biggest the challenge in bussiness in my opinion. My GP30 and GP40-2 gives me the impression of a good quality product.

Just remove the shell, put the chassis on a soft surface on its side, genly loosen the chassis scews a little . Now open the chassis a little, just enough to pull out the trucks.

Could be, I' ll guess these are the same as MTL uses. But these LEDs just look orange, these are white light LEDs with an orange filter. /Frank

Mark and all,
I have picked up the Tamiya X26 in an hobby shop for RC models (boats, planes and cars). It is not a typical color to be used for model trains.
See next, the result on youtube:

Hi all,
I have changed the cold white color of the. LED's of my D&RGW 3002 GP30 into warm white, simply by painting Tamiya x26 (tranparent orange) over the LED's. Will try to catch the result in a short film later.
