Hi Dom,
I had the same problem with my grande gp30. It had road number 3022 which did not match with the. Bilboard Grande logo. I have used a very fine grit sand paper to remove the 'aspen gold' numbers. The black paint was not noticeably damaged. In my case I had printed negative (transpirant) numbers on a black background, applied over a 'apen golden' patch. Since your locomotive is orange with black numbers, you can simply print black numbers on transpirant decal paper and apply under the cab window. This way you might be able to add letters to the logo on the long hood sides. /Frank

Hi Dom,
Most times I have used the unassebled couplers... l'll guess the couplers are sort of plactic welded . I always use a soldering iron as a heat source to weld the coupler box halves together. You should be able to open them with a sharp hobby knive. /Frank

Hi Dom, I just saw your question regarding the MTL couplers.... You can go as far as the guts of the coupler. Link to my picasa album: link to my GP40-2 kitbash

Even 5 is too much for a modeler. I would buy 2 for $100,- But if you want to encourage more modelers to start kitbashing and custom painting, you should just sell undecs for a nice price each.

Hi Dom, it came out very well. You have improved your skills compairing this one with the GP35! When you start on the next one I would build the closed pilot before starting to paint. Get yourself the drill and tap set from MTL (sorry AZL :-)) Drill/tap a hole in a small piece of brass, cut/file it to size afterwards (makes it easier the get the hole in the middle. Glue the piece of brass to the body and screw the coupling on to the brass interface. You also want trimm off as much as possible from back of the coupler housing. (see my picasa album GP40-2) You might want to add some airhoses and cut-levers from BMLA.

Great new Z models! Small detail of the SD45: front and rear pilot railings are similar to the GP38-2 design, they should not be straight, but follow the pilot floor. I made the same mistake on my SW1000 pilot railings. I'll guess for the SD45 it is done this way to reduce tooling costs. /Frank

Looks good Dom. Try putting decals on moisted tissue paper, instead of soaking into water. Works much better in my opinion.
Another way to get rear windows is to just drill a small hole and file the window with help of a small diamant file. (You can get these at Conrad in Europe)

Is there any update on the progress on the SD45's? It has been too quiet for weeks now... /Frank

This helicopter view gives you a nice overview over the pier construction. Since the tracks are all electrified and the switches are working, we could do some test runs and check with some engines and trains whether we calculated length and activities correctly. Although the pier still lacks all the little details that makes it alive, a first impression could be gained. Even at this still construction state, rail roading is real fun!!! I will show some more pics later.......... hi Sven, Looks great! Are you also planning a sort of fidle yard as Dirk has on his Nordsee layout? /Frank

Christoff, it is approxiately 1 mm. Underside of the piece of brass needs to be 5.2mm (.206") above the top of the rail. This size could differ per locomotive model. I used. The MTL tap and drill set #1059. Drill no. 62 , tap 00-90 (which fits to the screws that come with the #903 body mount coupler. I used a hand vice to drill and tap. I found it most easiest first to drill the hole, prior to filing the piece of brass to its required size.

So, the GP38-2 has a less detailed shell compaired to other AZL locomotives, but the guts are similar. They are all great runners and good pulling power because of traction tyres. The lower level of detail of the GP38-2 can be improved fairly easilly if you get used in building in Z-scale.

View AttachmentATSF is there, just did not list all the F3s. And the CN F3 will be in green. Hans, what is the unsharp undec left of the PC? It looks too small for a SD45 and a GP30.... /Frank

These F3s look great, can't wait to see the F7. The MTL F7 was back in 1986 a huge improvement compaired to Märklin's F unit, these AZL f units beat them all. It shows clearly the evolution of Z-scale detail improvement over all these years. /Frank
