HEY AZL (Rob Allbritton),
May I offer a loco suggestion? Since you already have the correct chassis with the GP38-2 how about expanding the lower cost loco line with GP40-2s and GP50s?
There are a lot of railroads that have these locos.CSX and NS plus UP just to name three have GP40-2s,CNW had 50s Mopac had 50s .KCS has both.

Remember that the GP38-2 was low cost because they already had the shell tooling from Rogue River. I suspect they wouldn't be able to do much better than the GP30 price. Beyond that, I'd support the project so long as all the decoration isn't for short lines like CNW and KCS.

They already have the chassis, and, the trucks, and the railings so that is a significant savings right there. The only tooling cost would be for the body shell which would be a whole lot less than a totally new loco.

I understand the request, but on the opposite kitbashing a GP38 into a GP40 or 50 shouldn't be an issue for an average modeller. The big part beeing adding a 3rd fan overhead aft..

Actually it goes beyond that as the 38 is not turbo charged so the exhaust is different as are the fans and radiator grilles.
For the fans 36" N scale fans would work nicely and using the grilles froma MTL SD40-2 would get you the right grilles for a 40-2 but not the 50 .In either case the dynamic brakes would be wrong.

I know it is Bob,but the cost of the loco shell would be offset by all the parts you do not NEED tooling for.
Chassis Trucks Railings Windows Couplers Motor/Drive train
Between the CSX railroads,Conrail,NS,UP,BNSF,BN,SF,and all of the lessor roads that owned these locos AZL would not run out of paint schemes for a couple of years. ;D

WP had GP-40s.

They even had a GP40 in Armour Yellow!
BTW: for reference to some of the comments here, I was paying $40-$60K for injection molds 20 years ago, and not nearly as complex as a GP.

Hopefully the mold is designed with inserts that can be changed out for those differences.
I am new to Z-scale but am loving my BN GP-38's. I would love to see some GP-50's to work with them.

Looks good Frank.I am thinking about using parts removed from a MTL SD40-2 to create a GP40-2 then pulling a mold and casting a few shells.
I get my GP40-2s that way and AZL sells more GP38-2s ;D
