The AZL Rio Grande PA1 AB is my Holy Grail of z scale! Some day I will get rich enough to buy it. Or buy AZL and produce it by myself, which I suspect would cost more or less the same ...

Yes I have seen pictures of the brass models and a few for sale, but at out of range prices - so really hoping for injection moulded versions. I do think they would sell very well

Maybe, Neverland, but in the 65 past years I learned to be realistic and to renounce, if necessary. I was never one of those children who, when they don't get what they want, begin with crying and shouting. No one can achieve the impossible !

I remember it! That was close. I almost bought it, then thought better of it. NYC paint scheme is stunning on the Alco PA1

All this talk about the PA-1 being the Queen of Diesels, the Holy Grail, out of price range, one would think you are talking about a priceless antique costing Billions of dollars. Well I hate to tell you this but ebay is not the only place you can find and buy them. Maybe try turning the computer off and going out to a Flea Markets, Garage Sales, Swap Meet, Train Show, and such. Not just once but every one you can. Don't just bypass a table because it doesn't have a huge pile of Z scale front and center And don't just look at what's on top of the table, take the time to look through the boxes on top and under the tables. You never know what you might find if you just get up go out and look. If you really want one don't just look at the local place down the street. Take a day trip. Go ahead and drive 2-3 or 6 hours to the next state and take your better half to a bed & breakfast, Turn it into a weekend getaway and keep her happy too.. And Yes they are out there at reasonable prices. I found these a little over a year ago at a show that was several hours away. And No I didn't pay the sticker price I PAID LESS... PS: I wish you good luck in finding and buying more than 7 AZL injection-molded diesel locos for the price i paid for my PA-1 ABA set. Just don't give up it could happen? David

Nice thought David, but a trip to the USA, the car hire and hotels is really going to add the the price of the bargain I haven’t seen for sale yet 😬

Exactly. I live in Italy. I could go to every hobby show for years and never find a vintage brass AZL locomotive for sale. Let alone for $100 Furthermore, for some reason some railroads were produced in very few numbers. For instance, there are somewhere in the world just 8 PRR PA1-PB1-PA1. Of the UP motorized PB1 just one (1) To find it you must have a lot of faith.

Or find someone to make one for you. But expect to pay accordingly. How bad do you want one???

Or find someone to make one for you. But expect to pay accordingly. How bad do you want one??? I am a collector, not a modeller: I try to grab all that I can afford . For brass locomotives, that means one in four/five years. Had Alco PA1 popped-up instead of the Krauss-Maffei, I would have bought it undoubtedly. Anyway, friendly people at AZL made it clear that if there is enough interest in a project, they will consider it. So, I am just lobbying in favor of a new run of Alco PA1, which would go well with the soon coming lightweight cars
