in anticipation of the production of lightweight passenger cars, two years ago I bought four MP (Eagle/Blue/White) E-8 locomotives (all four road numbers that were available).....now, AZL has announced smooth side passenger cars....WOW...I am waiting for the cars for my EAGLE train....some thoughts, to have THE EAGLE or COLORADO EAGLE on the letterboard is the question....I would prefer COLORADO EAGLE....maybe a few cars could have THE EAGLE.....also the Budd cars on the MP trains were corrugated (domes, diner, coach)......the COLORADO EAGLE had no observation car (so that in KS it could easily pick up a sleeper from Wichita).....probable the train would look better if AZL produced one ..... I am just excited that AZL is moving ahead......thanks for the continued QUALITY.....and everyone can not be satisfied at once!......thanks

We are hard at work making the lightweight passenger cars now, and hope you will be happy with the results of our efforts. I don't want to give away too many details quite yet, but we WILL be producing an Observation car for the MoPac. I'm attaching a picture of one of the prototypes we used when we were creating the artwork and lettering. Enjoy! -Rob(A) AZL

I'm waiting patiently too. I only bought one MP E8. This means that the passenger cars that I painted (incorrectly) won't have to be re-painted.

wow, such good news....it is a good idea to do the obs car as it will make the train look better.....the MP Eagle trains, COLORADO EAGLE, Texas Eagle, and MISSOURI RIVER EAGLE make striking appearances.....as a young boy, living in Jefferson City, MO, I used to see both the COLORADO EAGLE and the Mo River Eagle.....some people will want COLORADO EAGLE on the letterboard of the cars.....that was the case from 1942 until about 1950.....then the cars all became THE EAGLE.....as a suggestion, if the plan is to produce a coach, dome, diner, sleeper, bag, RPO, and obs, then for each make two, one with THE EAGLE and the other with COLORADO EAGLE.....then we could mix as 1950, or have THE EAGLE in 1955, or COLORADO EAGLE as before 1950....AZL is the greatest and keep up the good work.....I have 2 layouts, one in N-scale and the other in Z-scale......I have not waited on KATO to do the MP trains, so about 20 years ago I airbrushed my own version of the COLORADO EAGLE using Kato undecorated cars....beautiful paint schemes in the golden era of passenger service.

I couldn't resist signing-up for a class J locomotive. A number of nice videos are on the net of the N&W 611 that's still running. Watching them gives me goosebumps. Such a beauty!

I've had the fortunate opportunity to sit in the engineers seat while she's fired up! That whistle is smooth and sounds so nice from the cab.

I'd love to go on one of the excursions some day.

Has any pricing been announced for both the J locos only and the 611 set with the passenger cars?

No price yet, but we will try to stay below the Big Boy price. Once we get a firm quote from our manufacturer we will calculate the price.

I will admit that even though I am not a N&W fan, that is a very nice looking steam locomotive. As much as I would like one, there is no way I can justify it. I do envy those that will get one. At $2K (or thereabouts), that is as much as I have spent to date on Z-scale.

In addition to the 611 being such a beautiful locomotive, the excursion train is quite long, with an interesting mix of passenger cars, besides the expected Norfolk ones. Milwaukee Road, California Zephyr,Northern Pacific, Florida East Coast... nice!
