Ok so if the N/Z display cases are the same. How does this work:
"Our N & Z Scale Train Display Case (Series 1000, inside dimensions 1.06” deep x 1.60” opening) accommodates N-Scale rolling stock, engines and other collectibles.
Grooves provided for wheel flanges to drop into for easy alignment. No messing around trying to align the wheels on rails."
This came from the product description on their website.
I assume that the grooves align for N scale. How about Z scale, will the mentioned grooves not be too wide?
That is what prevents me from ordering a sample.
Thanks, -Tiest

From Mike, "they work fine for Z scale too, and you can fit track on the base or just nudge everything against the lip on the shelf. "

As I expected; it’s intended for N scale, not Z scale. I will keep looking for alternative options I guess. -Tiest

It's pretty common to adapt shelves for other uses. I actually bought an HO shelf for my Z stuff. That allowed me to stack two rows for each HO row. The advantage is it was much wider than the N version. Yes, a Z version that was similarly wide and had narrower height rows would be epic, but here we are. This was before I finished putting in the backdrop for the sky on the second level, but you get the idea. I will probably just buy more of these going forward, as they are fairly inexpensive. (sfdisplay.com $116.47 USD Shipped in 2018...EDIT: They've jumped up to $149.99 USD Shipped now.) FYI, this display shelf is a little more than 1/3 of the width of Mike's Showcase Express setup, and allows two more rows in the "doubled-up" configuration. If you bought three, side by side, you would have space for two extra 55ft freight cars, and the aforementioned two additional rows, for about 1/3 1/2 the price. Granted, there is a little customization needed with that, and the SE display looks *way* cooler.

The Grooved notches for the flanges to sit in are set for N scale. Z trucks sit crooked unless you offset loco/cars closer to the back or front. However the Rokuhan Roadbed Track is a perfect fit between the raised area. Note I removed the backdrop and front Lexan dust cover so you can see how it looks with out aa blinding glare from the camera flash

Rob,
I am drawing the same conclusion and thinking to add code 40 hand laid tracks in them. These beautiful UP heritage units and my recently acquired brass GS-4 denand to be showcased when not running.
Thanks and great weekend! -Tiest
