Hi, thought I’d create a topic to post my progress as it happens.
Hi,
I’m building an layout that is roughly based on the scenes of Sandhills Nebraska. The track is Märklin Z and rolling stock obviously AZL and MTL.
I got the yard wired up and functional and have the mainline half way laid. It will be a folded dog bone.
Here’s a video:
Best regards, Eino

Well it seems that the layout can now be run a loop! The bench work at some points is just some temporary supports, but hey, this is WIP.

So finally all of the mainline is laid and locos run it quite nice. I wonder why the GP38-2 is so much slower on fhe main than on the yard track 🤔 is it generally a slow loco?

hello are you running DC ? some locos are slower than others ( I have several GP38/2, some are slower and I do not know why) if there is a difference of speed in different places of the layout may be you have a loss of tension because you need more wiring
I don t really see a diffrence of speed on your video ??

Hi, Yes DC with Märklin white controllers. I have Rokuhan RC02s coming in though to replace them. At 0:45 you can see the GP38-3 leave the yeard track to the main. Both controllers are at max. When the loco crosses the turnout, speed drops. I’ve got feeders about every 4 feet. BR, Eino

I have a bunch of GP38's and have a few that run slow. Sometimes warming them up will help, especially if you consist with another unit that will pull it around the layout. But some just are born slow and stay that way. I tend to match them with other speed challenged engines and make a note of it in my roster list.

ok, if you have two controlers, if the pb is with the same with different locos that means , that the controlers do not deliver the same tension , or there is a lower resistance with the controler which controls the yard.
if it is only with the GP38/2, you can consider that it is part of Z scale trolling

I'll check the resistance and voltages later on just in case. BR, Eino

Hi guys! Been busy building the basic scenery for the past few days. I’ve got an exhibition coming in May 18th so I better speed up the progress if I wish to take the layout there!
Here’s a video

Einot,
Thank you for sharing. We should all thank Einot for sharing. (EVERYONE THANK EINOT FOR SHARING! It’s a lot of work working on a project and then making a coherent watchable video.)
Your work in progress vid was a treat. Vid looked good. Subject matter looked good. Well done.
Congrads on Sculptamold landform or terrain.
Don’t be afraid to flex-putty knife some thick Hydrocal up and up on the dry Sculptamold.
You can begin carving and texturizing (with safety goggles) like those guys on YouTube.
Moisten a sponge with some watercolor wash, pigment-water, or pastel-water and let it flow over the dry sculpted Hydrocal.
You can test percentage-based washes and combinations on gessoed canvas, paper, or cardboard.
Aloha,
Scott

Great stuff....that IS a great progress video. Now you need to tease us with some more trains running...even with the sculptamold moonscape going on! (trust me, I've been there, you're doing fine)

Thanks guys! Carving rock faces is something that I'll get my hands on soon as the remainder of the basic terrain form has been made. Hopefully this week.
After that. There will most definitely be trains running. On a video.

Hi!
Here’s the current progress!
Might get all the basic ground shaped up in a week or so.
