Eino,
Okay if I get a little persnickety (Pikkumainen?) with ya?
Ice bunkers and the B&O boxcar—Your mixing time periods detracts from my enjoyment.
Else, the operations, the scenery, and the videography are first rate.

Hi Scott,
Correct translation 👍
Yeah I know (vaguely), but I have very limited collection so I got to use what I’ve got or I’d be running 6 car trains.
Luckily I know almost nothing about US railroads (note the ”vaguely” a sentence back) so it does not melt my mind 😅
To be truthfull I’m still in the phase of ”buy everything and anything” in my hobby.
I did see a photo a few days back of UP SD70s and SW1500 in a same consist and thought ”this justifies all my mixed era stuff”.
I enjoy too much different models to be bothered with prototypics.
But I totally understand what you’re saying. 🍻

Eino,
You know something about US railroads.
What interested you in Nebraska? (Largest train yard out there.)
Why not just collect likely stuff relative to a particular time period?
Mixed era = Roman soldiers battling dinosaurs.
Buy everything and anything—Don’t do that. You’ll reach a level of model railroad maturity when you spend time selling what you didn’t want in the first place. You can get back the money but time is better spent doing other things. A percentage of one’s collection gets sold early on for a variety of reasons.
Enjoyable vids!
Appreciatively,
Scott

I have been running Z Scale trains since 1972 when Marklin introduced it. I have never sold any of it... I guess I never matured...

One comes to a point early on when one sells back some stuff they thought they wanted—It’s something frequently brought up at train shows. And it’s always very cathartic for me to hear model railroaders speak of it ’cause I remember the feelings I had when I experienced it. That is something I cared to share with Eino.
(One is not the same as one was before arriving at a particular point. That point is, therefore, deemed a mark of maturity.)
There’s no need for that. You’re just looking for ways to be offended. Who does that benefit?

Thank you guys! This is a great community I must say. Truly 😊 🤝🍻
Scott, it was sort of a reverse progress. I wanted to make a certain kind of scenery and then research if there is anything like it in the US. Sandhills Nebraska came closest. However my rendition of the scenery is not exactly that at the end of the day. Alot of fantasy work there. Also I loved the TV series Yellowstone which was an inspiration for midwest in general.
I’ll keep buying models I like and that I imagine could serve the upcoming industries on my layout. Even if mixed era. At some point I’m hoping to have large enough collection to have era specific running sessions and if I want to, change the era from session to session.
Gosh, I barely know what era a car type belongs to anyway. But here’s a thing, I’ve never seen this stuff in the real world. So I haven’t been able to experience the transition from era to era personally. I don’t have that kind of connnection to the prototypics of US railroading. I just love the design and the possibilities for a beautiful scenery.
But then again, to educate myself, I watched a video of early Conrail last night. They surely ran anything and everything mixed.

Oh! Here’s another video from this morning. Wife is out oh home si I get to take this to the kitchen table. An overview with 2-3 trains running:

So I finally found the industrial features I was looking for and made a video of what I’m planning. Now I understand that this is not a prototypical way how these type of industries work, but I’m more into creating a nice scene.

Hi!
How’s everyone doing?
So there is a train show here in Finland in two weeks time, so it was time to put some effort on the main industries on the layout. Detailing and finishing touches are still work in progress.
Here’s a video

Wow, I saw that You used the same "grain elevator" as I did, You used the "Pool" version, mine is the "Paterson" with some additional details (3D-printed at "late" Shapeways ).
