Now on the other hand, what if AZL would go through an extensive rebuild program to take a few misfits that have been sold out for many, many years and offer them with all new and upgraded components? Hmmm... Coming 9/1/18... Rob Now, that would really be a great idea! A reconditioned model would have no difference with an ordinary model, while having the added bonus of being otherwise impossible to get brand new (in case of sold out items). I guess the price would be that of the regular model, if not higher because of the various upgrades :-P

I still think it would be a horrible idea. To put into circulation faulty items would greatly harm the perception of the AZL brand (which is now state of the art). Imo it was already very difficult to manage the GP-38 crisis as it was. What would happen, should tens of defective locos of a given model hit the market? In the aftermarket nobody would risk buying one such loco, knowing it could be one of the “broken” ones...

Before the downfall of Marklin a few years ago, the Miniclub counted several thousands of members in Germany only. I was one of them, even though I live in Italy. I am not sure what the situation is now, but it is clear Z scale was sacrificed for survival. It almost disappeared from their catalogue. Delays are abismal and releases erratic, to say the least:-(

Thank you, Hans. I guess then that this loco would be the perfect choice, as motive power, to pull the big sky blue GN two-bay hoppers :-)

I just noted the vents of the upper body of the GN F3 are different from all others’ (i.e., lower). In the real thing, what did it mean? What was their purpose?

I was just a collector before. I still am, and I will be in the next years. Of course, as AZL monthly releases get scarcer, I am likely to purchase from other manufacturers as well. As far as 2018 is concerned, though, I will seize the opportunity to fill some gaps in my AZL roster. The indefinite delay of the brass N&W J class locomotive is an altogether different issue. I have saved hardly since its announcement. I am not going to wait indefinitely. As soon as I hit the estimated budget for the loco (summer of 2019), if the loco is not available,I will purchase an Omega Seamaster 300m diver instead. The cost is more or less the same (I was on the list for the loco+train). This very special purchase is my 50th birthday gift. After all I have been waiting 50 years:-P

News about the J class project broke my heart . This was altogether saddening and unexpected. On the other hand I am glad to hear that, like Invictus, you feel the master of your fate and the captain of your soul! Fingers crossed, and of course my prayers go to your ill business partner and his family.

Mark, by chance did you also investigate the recent free trade agreement between EU and Japan? It would be great for all of us, European modellers, to get the amazing “made in Japan” stuff at the original prices :-D

While I understand the high price of older models, I find Krauss Maffei's incomprehensible. Unless of course the initial demand exceeded the production run. But that wasn't the case, as I clearly remember a couple locos weren't claimed by guys who had pre-ordered, and were put on sale directly by AZL. Be that as it may, I guess this kind of speculation just means the interest in Z scale is growing :-)

The FA-1 was quite popular too! I am very curious to see this model. Will it be undecorated? Anyway almost as beautiful as the PA-1 :-D

Thank you, Rob. I love the NS SD45, but wasn’t sure it fit well. I will go for it, then :-)

Dave, MTL GP9 would be really great, but I doubt it can be found brand new. As to the ES44ac, I am not sure old N&W branded cars were still in service...

Hi everybody.
I was wondering: which motive power, among those currently for sale by AZL, would go well with Norfolk & Western freight cars? I am asking because it seems no N&W loco was ever made insofar. I am not sticking to any particular era. Maybe a Norfolk Southern SD45? Likely, in the first days of the N&W/Southern merger some motley crew rolled in the field?
