Beautiful!
What AZL locomotives could be the right choice, as motive power for such cars?

I just survived the dreaded San Diego Comic Con 2020 lottery, and I am spiritually prepared to face next Spring HotelApocalypse! Nothing can scare me :-P
This said, I would rather have a super-good, fast selling special sale from AZL, than a lame one :-P

Alco PA-1 is a no-brainer decision here :-)

Actually there were two CZ liveries: one for freight with nose whiskers and a passenger one with nose wings: View AttachmentMTL F7A (freight) vs. AZL F3A (passenger) I don't believe they ever mixed the livery A units. Road numbers 801 and 802 were renumbered as 925A & C. at the end of the F7 numbering series and could be used for freight service once the FP7s became the prime movers for the CZ. As far as operation, the passenger units were always run ABB for the F3s, AB(B) for the FP7s. For freight almost anything combination of F unit in any orientation: rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=390788Although I can't confirm the details, it is said that some of the F units could only be run as cab forward. Hope this helps, Mark Thank you very much, Mark! Very interesting and very useful :-)

Hello!
As far as the Western Pacific F3s are concerned, I have a question: with this same CZ livery, were they also used in freight service? If yes, in what consist (i.e., F3A only, F3ABA etc.).
Thank you

Price will be not cheap, I assume brass shell and 2 Powermax, so north of $500. If 2 Popwermax I doubt the trucks will be in the correct spot due to the height of the Powermax. But maybe only one Powermax in the back. Ah well, all speculation. We will wait and see and hopefully the product will be made in the first place and is good. It seems that the FA-1 by Searails is at long last going to be released! Scheduled date is end of November (well, November 31st, as a matter of fact. I hope this is a typo and not the "day-of-never" ). Oddly enough, it will be powered by MTL instead of Powermax. Perhaps this helped cut the final price. I am very curious to see the final product

For the record there will be no mid-month release for November... And there was much rejoicing... BUT, the annual AZL Friday specials start on November 29th... and we have some doozies this time around... And there was much cursing... That's great! I have been saving a lot this year, waiting for the legendary AZL Friday specials. I can't wait to see what will be offered :-)

Wonderful photos that make justice to AZL's wonderful, little trains :-)

Initially I thought they were abandoning Z scale because of the Affa crisis, that shocked so many rail modellers last year. Modeltrainstuff had an epic, almost close-out sale of AZL stuff. In the past months, though, I realized it has more to do with Z scale in general than AZL. Life is hard for little trains lovers :-(

For those of you with the UP Gray Goose Challenger... these cars go perfect with that loco! Rob Now, that is a rare one indeed! I wonder how many of those locos are still in the collection of some lucky guys. However, I own the cab forward. Great to know that these cars can be a fine match for the ugly one

I love the Marklin Z Commodere Vanderbilt loco! Sadly, I missed it when released for sale. Some time ago I enquired at Marklin about a potential re-release, but they answered it isn't foreseen in the near future. My impression is that the crisis that nearly put an end to Marklin 10 years ago, combined with superlative offering of American models by US manufacturers (like of course AZL), spelled death for Marklin American themed rolling stock. Paired with the new lightweights this little loco is a real beauty :-)

Has anybody placed an order for the Searails Alco Fa-1? It seems the first locos (CP RAIL, Louisville & Nashville, Western Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York Central) will hit the shelves next October. Aside from Zscalemonster, do you know who else is distributing Searails products?
