Strummer I'm in my early 20s and have been collecting/buying these things since 2003. That was when I got my first F7 from MTL and it just died a few weeks back. They also re released it this year a little different but still a CP Rail f7 and I got it again to replace my dead one. I still like them but they just never update, no new track, no new styles, they just don't keep up with the times. My other 2 run perfect and there old aswell I don't have more cuz being that young it was hard to save up 200 for a nice loco now that I'm a little older and make more money they don't produce them anymore. These AZL models are beautiful and there's plenty to choose from all across the boards in price great customer support awesome dealers! I'll never get rid of my MTL and may get the occasional cars I like tankers, gondolas, stack cars your right they are Heros of Z. But I still just need to compliment AZL and that comparison of what I use to own and what I have now tells the tail.
MP Fan I'm not even a detail freak in accuracy or specific eras. I just love trains since before I can remember. I hope your right that more will join in. It's funny that you were in N for almost or possibly longer then my life span lol. I almost got into N when I ditched HO scale. But then I saw the Z Scale and it was even smaller! they had an f7 in classic CP Rail paint. That's my favourite loco in real life. I had to buy it and that's how this adventure all started. One loco and an oval of track. That's all I could afford now here I am 12 years later about to build a big layout or try to atleast. I hope your right that this is the kick in the rear that z scale needed and that AZL will heavily benefit from it being able to comfortably expand there lines and productivity.
Sorry for the bad spelling and grammar guys it's not my strong suit

So less then 4 months ago I took the plunge and purchased an AZL locomotive ( 4 of them actually all gp38-2s ) since then my collection of micro-trains that I've been collecting for years has become a minority. Anyone else experienced this change in fleet as much as I have? I went from 3 MTL locos and 50 MTL freight cars to 8 AZL locos ( so far ) and 62 azl freight cars along with the old MTL collection funny isn't it how a company like MTL could go down hill so fast in my eyes and a company like AZL can get the same amount of money out of me in a fraction of the time with a better product to boot way to be King AZL maybe soon mtl will take some notes and try to play catch up I'm doughtful tho as far as I'm concerned I'm done with coffee grinders and box cars

Hey everyone I have a brand new loco that won't run it's very disappointing I've tried to contact azl Bout it but I had no response can anyone give me an idea as to how to fix this the lights work it just won't run B unit runs but looks silly without the A unit I'm in no way upset with AZL about this I understand these things happen I'd just either like to fix it or pay to have it fixed depending on my answers in here I may just order a new one and keep the broken one for spare parts

I feel the other way on this I think an expert set would be rather interesting maybe somthing with 2 locos and a variety of cars and track maybe enough track to build more then an oval with a siding it and the road name could be selected through a drop down menu to select the road name in the $800-1000 range for people who know they want in and could easily find some savings while doing so

Dave I like you suggestion of the L shaped layout I just measured and have 5.5 x 10.5 feet of space to work with I'll put that into any rail tonight and see what I can come up with should be easier to design around an L vs a rectangle

Ok so that a good plan for Dave but someone like myself I'm bored with these simple layouts and I already own rokuhan track and lots of it like 8 switches 4 for each direction and 195,220,245,270 r curves tons of straights uncoupler tracks track bumpers all the cables and switches to run the the switch tracks I set them up regularly and practice switching and running multiple units I also have over a 100 cars and 10 engines with number 11 on the way ( up e8 yes stoked for that one) so sadly a 2x4 for layout is not big enough for me to run all my trains my 2 sd75i's are double heading on the largest loop I can make in 2x4 feet and there maxed out at 28 cars with a short gap between the front and back of the train I know they can take so much more just need a proper layout to test it on I'm just so lost on where to begin on a real layout and Dave I noticed a major difference in running multiple power feed points to the main loop deffinetly improves the running characteristics of all locomotives both azl and mtl and marklin

I'm really struggling with the concept of a layout also. Not only will I have a hard time with the scenery but what to model after. I collect trains that are eye catching with colours I like I mean don't get me wrong I'm Canadian so I own mostly trains in Canada but still if it looks good I can't help myself sometimes (UP yellow catches my eye all the time) non the less this whole track plan is a pain in the rear end I even purchased anyrail5 in hopes it would help but still can't decide on a track plan I really enjoy the concept of a rail yard/industrial zone but can't figure out how to tie it all together or where to even begin do I do the first thing every new guy does and build a 4x8 with a scenery devider in it one side beautiful Alberta prairies an the other side the iner city waste land or go for a modular layout and build the modules as I feel they should be at the time of building remember this would be my first proper layout with no exprience under my belt what so ever I believe track planning is the first and most crucial step but like the originator of this thread there are little to no ideas to go off of for a first timer

I did see those to and also read somewhere they have the same pin spacing the AZL containers but don't know if it's true yet. I just figured tho if azl had another run planned soon I could wait and go through my Canadian dealer to help a small Canadian business and also to continue to support AZL I don't think he can get mcz products at this current time just AZL MTL Rokuhan and Intermountain

Ok so I received my 6 AZL thrall well cars 3 CP rail and 3 DTTX. all I can say is wow nice weight beautiful detailing on both the cars and the shipping containers I'm very impressed. I also did a quick comparison to my mtl well cars and intermodel containers, the containers blow mtl's out of the water. I have more mtl well cars then I have mtl containers so I did do a test fit obviously the pin holes don't line up we all know that but the AZL containers do fit snug in the MTL units and look far better as far as level of detail is concerned. I'm very pleased with the fact that the containers are interchangeable from brand to brand.
Now time for the questions first question will there be another run of thrall well cars in the near future I know I got the last cp set so gotta be close to another production run I hope
Second question will the hapag Lloyd containers be available again soon I see hundreds go by everyday behind my house on CP rails main line nex to there head office so I'd Deffs like to get some when/if they are available again
Last but not least will we ever see 20' shipping containers out of AZL ?
Thanks again for yet another awesome product from you guys and thanks for any info your allowed to offer up
