I'm still watching for some 4-4-0's. I'm not holding my breath though. I'm thrilled to death I have a NS sw1500!
My "new" wish list might be pretty simple for the ALZ labs. Vented hatch covers for the ACF 4-bay covered hopper cars. Vented covers were already pretty much out numbering the unvented hatched cars in the early 2000's. By 2018 we were only receiving unvented hatch cars about once a year. The modern cars also have much more graffiti on them.

Hey, thanks for that As such, never considered steam wheel configurations for the track radii. Thank you for pointing that out. Steam engines are probably the hardest thing to run because of the rigid driver block. While the Märklin Mikado works reasonably well at 195mm. The AZL really likes 220mm and larger. There are other issues too like the the drive wheel spacing. Hans has pointed out that the distance between wheels can make it impossible to have a proper wheel flange. I wouldn’t call them unsuccessful, rather a new design that like other new designs can use a bit of tweaking out in the real world. The main issue I had was with the lead truck derailing. IMHO it’s too light and I found adding a couple of grams helped. I also wonder if a deeper wheel flange would help. It’s a decent puller. I’ve run it with the 10 car Sunset Limited set reasonably well on a 220mm oval of MTL roadbed track. I The design doesn’t allow for MUing the Mikado as a slave. A bit challenging to DCC but there are instructions either here or TrainBoard. Mark

Yeah, I have to dig up the thread for AZL Mikado DCC wiring as I’d like to do that now. And I do remember it benefits from weight up front.

My suggestions :-
CABOOSE A more typical North American caboose with an offset-centre cupola. This may mean AZL sacrificing their commitment to accuracy just for once, and producing a “generic” model, more akin to the Marklin one (but with better proportions, especially regarding the wheel spacing).
PASSENGER Rock Island, Delaware & Hudson (for the Alco PA to make the Adirondack), BN in cascade green/hockey stick, GN big sky blue. Rio Grande lightweights in yellow and silver.
LOCOMOTIVES Alco FA, Amtrak F40PH, plus the next run of F7 to include GN and BN in liveries to match the coaches above. Second run of both E7 and RS-3 to include Rock Island.

How about a Frisco Meteor passenger car set?

My locomotive wish list is simple, Baldwin S-12 (and I imagine it'd be easy enough to modify a the z level into an acceptable DS-4-4-1000). My dream is to model the Copper Range RR in Z.

Wow. What wonderful suggestions! I second them:
Dash 8/Dash 9 (CSX Bright Future) Alco FA Amtrak F40PH Baldwin S-12 Frisco Meteor (specially tooled name train)
These guys seem very Z-scalable.
The Alco, the Baldwin, the Meteor—Very very cool. How did I overlook such things?
PS: Caboose: B&O I-5.
May we have that as the generic for northeast center-cupola?
PSS: Mark, thank you for expounding on steam engines in Z. Have a 195/220 double-track loop. Ties are prototypically spaced but I wonder why MTL choose those radii. They are unusually sharp. Have Atlas flex track. Have entertained the notion of creating a more prototypical-looking form and function using soldered track. Were I to go as far as soldering track for a layout, I would consider super-elevation (four-degrees on the cusp). 195/220 is just ... cute.

The B&O I-5 caboose has a centre-cupola, and this type of “North Eastern / Reading / USRA” vehicle is represented by the Microtrains model. It is a caboose with the cupola offset to one end that is the glaring omission at present, excepting the Maerklin.

Works out well.

Put me down Baldwin S-12s and woodchip hoppers. But maybe the Baldwin switchers are something we can push TheZMaker to produce.

Dear New Member,
AZL and Z scale MTL sometimes have similar design choices. Both have run 40-foot boxcars and 8,000 gallon tankers that have some sililarity.
I would like to AZL's take specifically on the center-cupola model. AZL craftspersonship, historic detail, and color detail tends to be nothing short of dazzling.
PS: The B&O town where my mother grew up had only the red center-cupola and the blue or yellow bay window Chessies.
Never saw blue C-3050s or yellow wide vision C&O cabooses. Scott
