Well, we are now in september 2017, so I proceeded to cancel my p42 via rail order and asked that the deposit be put elsewhere... over a year since the others were released, awful This was the first time I put a deposit on an item, and the last Sorry about that. We were also promised the VIA locomotives a year ago, but that portion of the order is still incomplete for us. This is one of the issues of Z scale - we are considered a "fill in" customer by all factories because we do not have the volume (number of units or $$$ of order size) that larger companies do (Atlas, bachmann, Hornby, etc) as such, or orders get easily bumped out of the production sequence when one of the big players needs something done yesterday. Our work gets done when they have a free moment to "fill in" their production process. We have tried many times to get contractual delivery guarantees, offered penalties, and incentive payments. Because we are small, none of that has worked. We keep trying. On a side note, the P42 was the first (and probably last) time we have done reservations and pre-orders. We had hoped that it would help people budget for our releases, but because of the unpredictability of deliveries, we think it is a bad idea going forward. Now we will wait until very late in the process to announce new items, and then delivery more quickly.

I placed a deposit to reserve the Amtrak P42 and passenger sets. It was unconventional for me, as my almost two decades in n-scale had never prompted such a transaction. I do know that some dealers in N did require deposits on certain things but they were the exception. I had heard horror stories of shops that required deposits and/or even FULL PAYMENT IN ADVANCE on all purchases and then skipped town at some point. True or not, they generated paranoia over such business practices. When manufacturers started moving toward a reservation system there was an uproar as people thought they would have to put money down and--once again--that practice was limited to a select few retailers. So, when the prospect of placing a down payment for the Amtrak stuff was presented, it did create pause due to the stigma I'd associated with the practice. But, it just didn't concern me once I thought about it. The dealer I was working with seemed to have a good reputation (and since has exhibited excellent customer service to prove that out) and the dollar amounts involved were relatively small. An unanticipated *positive* side affect of the deal, though, was the fact that it created a defacto "lay-a-way plan" since part of the money was already off the books so to speak. So once the items were delivered, the sting of a purchase (that was slightly out of my comfort level to begin with) was not nearly as harsh. Having said all that, if I was still sitting here a year later with no trains in hand, I too would probably be sharpening the pitch fork and growling a little bit, too.

I expect the VIA P42 before the end of 2017.
We do not get any $$$ from Reservations. If your dealer asked for money for a deposit, AZL does not receive any of those funds. A reservation with us is the same as a restaurant.

I will still get the p42 when it does come out, I just hate the fact that I had tied those funds up for over a year...

It's not just the VIA ones either, I still have an Amtrak Anniversary unit on preorder at Zscalemonster, and I'm nervous when they will get released as I can't afford the $240 price tag at the moment...

I am sure Anthony a zscalemonster can fix that if you do have that problem...

Rereading the above ...it is not perfectly clear what I'm asking. To clarify: I wasn't going to preorder the P42 Genesis. However, I did get one, road number 76. I like it and want another. Are more phase V paint scheme in the pipeline or should I be asking around for one? Thanks Rory

The "AutoTrain Assigned" 818 and 835 are still listed as available. These are 63502-5 & 63502-6.
The sub-100 road number units (63502-1 to -4) are sold out and no longer available.
