You are lucky, we are close to release the CN F3s in their original paint scheme. CP will have to wait a little. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Thanks Hans. That's great to know. I'll be looking for two complete sets. My next question would be are you planning on making both paint schemes? Passenger and Freight. They are distinctly different.

On another web site, somebody asked for photos of the ATSF F units. I'm posting them here too - just because.

Oh another note - those photos were taken on an iPhone, so quality may not be the best. An interesting aside: The ATSF F units were delayed because we changed paint colors. The prototype ATSF units had a mirror finish on them. Since we like to stick to authenticity, we decided to duplicated that mirror finish in Z scale. IT LOOKED HORRIBLE!!! The "Santa Fe" text all but disappeared. So we did what every other model maker has done: we went with a high gloss silver paint. We think it looks great. I'm attaching a picture of the mirror finish so you can judge for yourself (but it will never be made, so don't even bother asking! ) The green rid is actually a screwdriver handle that I put over the mirror so you could see how much it reflected everything. Seriously, I could brush my teeth in it's reflectivity (Yeah, I have tiny teeth) Enjoy! Attachments:

Liking to do some background research on my purchases, I can say that while the mirror finish was prototypical on many of the units, the road numbers AZL choose the high gloss silver was the correct choice. And based on the features selected in assembly of these lovely ATSF units the RD#s where also the correct choice. The only flub was that first F3 order, from which the AZL RD#s selected fall into, had the long warbonnet, which extended back between the second and third grill. Even knowing all this I do like the mirror finish! So I'll ask anyway. And while I'm at it please combine with the lower fans and appropriate RD#. Would make for some lovely visual contrasts, like seen in the image from that auction site: ~Paul E.

You indeed see the mirror finish when you see them driving through your layout. I tried my best to catch that on a picture, but it is not easy. Here comes my best shot - please zoom in. Best, Sven

Hi Everyone, Just posting a problem and solution with the F3 A and B units. I own 10 of these little gems and have been having trouble with Power pick up on 4-5 of them. this is what I've found and seems to have fixed my problems and am able to run DCC without any stalling. Just tear down truck bend the metal back flat. The bottom of the truck just unsnaps allowing access to the contact bars and wheels. far easier with truck not on the chassis. Also good time to pull wheels and clean.

Hans, Yes I do know this, but need those for the rest of my heavy weights. Are the F3s, tuscan or brunswick green?
