Mark, a UP C44-9CW went for $2840. I wish I have couple of those. It would finance my purchases for the year. I have two C44's, but one of them is in Southern California for four years. :C

It is way to early to speculate about release dates or in what order we will release roadnames. It will be a large production run which will include locomotives from all the major operators. Some NS Fallen Flags will be included as well. We did run a test locomotive and it performed according to our specifications. Updates to the Forum will be made when we have more details. But, first we need to get the F3 delivered and then the SD45s. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Hans,
Does this mean we will see the NS heritage fleet? Maybe PRR, NYC, LV, and Reading? Think Pennsylvania if so.

NICE ! At Portland, we may have the BFY (Big Friggin Yard). It will have a LOT of UP on it, along with BNSF/SF plus SP and WP lines.
Yeow, the locomotives keep getting bigger. I can now leave my brass C-44 in the Engine yard to properly scale the GP7's.

Was there that much external difference to notice? Specialists may have other clues. But for anyone the big external difference between AC4400CWs and ES44ACs is the aft horizontal radiator, that is thicker and the double flared secondary radiators underneath on the ES44s. On the opposite AC4400s hold a thinner aft horizontal radiator and a simple flared secondary radiator underneath, the same than DC powered Dash9s. Hope this helps, Dom

Hope this helps, Dom Thanks Dom, I recently was fortunately (yes fortunately) to get stopped by a UP freighter that had both a AC45CCTE (ES44AC) and a AC4400CW in tandem and even though a man galloping by on a horse would not see a difference I now do see the differences. But I do think that if AZL wanted to they could use the same platform with different attachments could create both Locos.

It doesn't depend on me. Myself I was verry happy with the initially scheduled AC4400 as I was already thinking to a pair of Ferrosur samples. I guess AZL decided to swap to GEVOs in order to produce all the NS Heritage units wearing fallen flag paintschemes (Norfolk & Western, Frisco, Virginian, etc). And finally, as I understood a Ferromex sample will be released, that roughly fits with my goals. As of releasing both GEVOs and ACs, not sure that it could be within AZL's plans as only the radiators' differences would lead to heavy tooling changes. But maybe Rob or Hans will give us some data in the future. Dom

I do not think we will produce the AC4400 since there are too many details that needs to be changed. Think it is better to use our funds to develop future locomotives. As soon as we have some ES44AC decorating samples we will share some photos on the blog. The Heritage locomotives was clearly a deciding factor to do the switch from the AC4400 to the ES44AC. We have not decided which heritage locomotives will be made, but N&W and Southern are likely. And we plan a Ferromex as well. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

We are finally testing running prototypes and checking artwork on pre production locomotives. Hopefully the locomotives will be ready for final production late December. Here is the UP before corrections.
