We have put together a short video on AZL's 2020 run of GP38-2s. Check out instructions on removing the shell and installing the optional plow!

Hi I am new to AZL. I recently bought an Ferromex -63108-1 AZL SD70ACe loco. Do these loco have tyres installed and if so usually on how many wheels. secondly how can we change tyres and are tyres available as spare parts? Are there different sizes of tyres for different Loco?

Nice video.
It appears that you slipped in something new: not having to open up the split chassis to change the truck. Is this another design change with the third run, or just new knowledge? It it's a design change, will it appear on future AZL releases and re-runs such as the E8/9? Personally I never cared for opening up the split chassis because it's hard to torque the screws right after replacing the truck.

pk1947: Welcome to the forum and welcome to Z. You can buy the replacement tires on the AZL Direct web site: www.azldirect.com/parts?limit=50 along with a number of other parts. Typically there are just 2 tires on alternate sides of the two trucks. I've never had to replace the tires in Z or in S scale going back to 1957. As long as you treat them well, cleaning with just alcohol, I would expect them to last a long time.

Yes, the ACes do have traction tires. If I remember correctly, they are installed on one wheel of one axle of each truck. We do offer replacement traction tires. To replace it requires removing the truck form the chassis, and then taking the truck apart so you can remove the axle and replace the tire.
As Mark mentioned, the trucks are designed to pop out of the chassis. In most cases, I found that I don't need to split the chassis frame. Some of the releases, splitting the chassis makes life easier. AZL's trucks have a beveled gear tower that assist is popping the trucks back into the chassis.

On the splitting the chassis issue, I'm relatively new to z, but having tried to avoid splitting it once, and then finding myself holding a handful of parts that used to be the truck, I now always do it.

On my own post above, if anyone has a pointer on how to reassemble a truck – where do those little copper strips go? – I'd be most grateful

Not sure what you need . Go to zscalemonster.com . Click on AZL towards bottom left column. Under tech tips is a page on wiper pickups. Hopefully that helps.

The pictures are helpful, but the basic issue is that I can't figure out how to get the wheels back into the frame with both wipers attached – this is on a first generation GP7. One always pops off when I put the wheels into the frame.
Tonight I ultimately gave up, and reinstalled the truck with only one wiper. The engine actually runs fine, but its a bit annoying – and I'd never take apart a truck voluntarily based on that experience.

For those who find themselves in a similar predicament in the future – with an unintentionally disassembled truck (see above) – the diagram that comes with the Marklin version of the AZL E8s is also helpful. Anthony has those online too (see page 10): www.zscalemonster.com/marklin/rolling/88628.pdf
