I ran some quick numbers on this project. I estimate that the 5-unit articulated Maxi-I WITHOUT containers will be MSRP $199 - street Price about 10% less. Add $5 per container if you want them. So about $49 per car with containers. I think you need to rerun the project with slower numbers. I have to say--as much as I like these prototype cars--I'll have to sit out the z-scale version at $200 without containers. So I guess Joe is right, the economics don't work for a car like this. Anyway, I'll still keep the thread going to generate interest for those that can afford them.

Hi Guys, I ran some quick numbers on this project. I estimate that the 5-unit articulated Maxi-I WITHOUT containers will be MSRP $199 - street Price about 10% less. Add $5 per container if you want them. So about $49 per car with containers. That price is in the same neighborhood as our 53' well cars (when we had them for sale) as a 3 pack with containers was just a little under $140, or about $47 per car. Given that the 53' well cars were produced 7(?) years ago, that is a very small price increase! Best, -Rob(A) AZL Super stoked to read about the upcoming Maxi-I's. A new articulated 5-unit stack car set has been the number one item on my want list for a long time. Thanks once again from continuing to develop such a wide variety of outstanding Z scale models.

I too, am excited for the Maxi-I’s and have been anticipating them since they were announced. Could you tell us the length of one from coupler to coupler? I’m thinking about how they might fit onto a siding I have in mind, since they are so long.
Thanks,
-Jason

I’m thinking about how they might fit onto a siding I have in mind, since they are so long. From Brian Solomon's "Intermodal Railroading" book, page 120: "Based on Greenbriar's [Gunderson] published specifications, the Maxi-I cars in five-unit articulated sets measure 265ft 3-1/2in long over coupler faces." This translates to 368.3 mm or a little less than 14-1/2 inches in Z-scale. Given the unprototypical length of most model train couplers, that figure is probably a good one to use to be on the safe side.

And I'll ask again, (in the right topic this time) any update on the release date and pricing for the Maxi-I's?

Oh, so significant delay....that helps I guess. Any more info....roadnames, etc.? No more info at this time. And not a significant delay either. We do not have an estimated release date yet. Late 2018 / early 2019 was simply a guess on my part. We announced the Maxi-I cars when we commissioned the product. Normal product development time is 12 to 36 months depending on the complexity of the product.

Normal product development time is 12 to 36 months depending on the complexity of the product. Fair enough. I was just going by an early guess of "Maxi Stack I´s probably before next Summer" by Hans back in August of last year. I think some of us were bracing for these to hit at any time over the next few months. Sounds like we easily have another 6-9 months past "pre-summer 2018".

It gives me a good idea of the length. -Jason

No more info at this time. How about now? I at least expected an April Fools joke, or something. This place has been dead... I mean it. Is Canada that bad? We all might have to move there...
