That’s really great! I was unaware of this opportunity. I mean: that one can simply switch a truck/coupler :-)

Hi, Mark!
I guess a transition car is the best option. In fact I just found one online, although not UP’s :-)

Thank you for your thorough reply, Doug!
Since here in Europe UP E8AB by Marklin/AZL seem to abund, I was just thinking to combine them with some other Marklin freight cars :-)
(unfortunately, Marklin-branded E8 features a Marklin coupler...)

Hello, knowledgeable members of the forum! Does anyone know whether tank cars like this (by Marklin) are used by North American railroads too? I get GATX is a US company. I would like to put a UP E8A in the lead of some of them (as you know, I am obsessed - for some unknown reason - with E8 in freight service )

Hmm!I have three AZL-Dealer in Germany, where I can buy directly. They vary sometimes in their prizes very much, so I can choose. All in all, the prize in euros is pretty close to the US prize in dollars. I guess, AZL get their taxes back ( like duty free on an airport )when they are doing an export business and they can offer a special price to european dealers. The problem with buying in US for me is the fact, that the high costs for shipping count also for custom duty taxes. I´m not sure if a direct way from China to europe makes it better as long as there is no protection tax from the US-side to these products. Three German dealers? I know only of one, and their prices in euros are exactly the average prices in US dollars + customs :-( If forum rules forbid the sharing of such information, could you be so kind to pm me? By the way, years ago there was a major Swiss e-store, now defunct. I bought a fine brass SZL loco from them. In fact, they carried the whole SZL collection. I agree with you about custom levies taking into account shipping costs too. I never understood how such a folly can happen

Hi, Rob. Any chance SZL gets distributed by someone in the Old continent? Currently we AZL European collectors have to pay absurd custom duty taxes to buy stuff from US dealers :-(

Auction closed at USD5000+ As much as I love the cab forward, I find it hard to believe :-0 Being also a lover of fine mechanical watches, I would be torn apart if I had to choose between a Reverso or Moonwatch and a z scale locomotive ah ah

I think there is a big diffrence between asking price and sale price I bought the cab forward just three years ago, when there were still plenty of them for sale. The loco herself is a masterpiece, but I discarded the idea to buy the set because of the overall price. It seems I was right in my choice, as I could buy the resin injection cars even today, if I wished. It always strikes me how much expensive is to get the old times brass pieces by AZL/SZL. Nowadays I would make a folly only for either an Alco PA1 or the grey goose UP Challenger brass locomotive. Insetad of any other piece, I would rather purchase a lot of newer injection engines

I voted “prototype” in the poll. However, I recently got a couple weathered & graffiti MTL z scale trains. I have to say that on-line photographs don’t do justice to these models. I love them and I will certainly try to grab more :-)

Let's revamp the Old World branch of AZL: Swiss Z Line! We Z-lovers from Europe won't pay anymore custom duties for buying from the USA trains that are not made in the USA :-D

Dom, I guess you are right. It is strange that with the 60s fall of long-distance passenger trains, and consequent abundance of E8s, there is such shortage of pictures. I got from one of Alberich’s links that several railways downgraded those locomotives to freight service. Anyway, I find US railroad history really fascinating :-)
