Actually I remember there was a time when I used to check for really new stuff in Z once every year - or was it every other year ? Now, about this free beer ...

John, that looks pretty amazing! I myself use the aforementioned WS fine gray ballast which blends really well with the Micro-Track I use. But I must say I really like the surrounding terrain you modelled both sides of your track - what did you use there? cheerZ Adrian

And what a nifty little engine it is too, Hans. Looks great (even with less detail than other AZL locos) and runs great, a real workhorse. And I had to smile when I got myself an undecorated unit and, on separating the shell from the chassis, found that inside it carries the wording ROGUE LOCOMOTIVE stamp-moulded into the top - a bit like a hidden commemorative plaque cheerZ Adrian

Just to chime in here and blow the same trumpet... the well cars do indeed seem to gradually be nearing the point of being completely sold out, so yes, it would be nice to see another run of this important and popular model.
I realize of course that it's a question of juggling around production capacities, what with all the new items we've been seeing over the past few months. But still - any chance of seeing more well cars anytime soon?

I model the East Coast so this is naught for me, but I'm very happy all the same to see this loco - it's models of railroad icons like this one that help bring new folks to Z scale, and having a Santa Fe F type with both A and B units in AZL quality is great news for Z.

Can't help but agree with what's been said - this really is a tough one. I actually like the SD70s a lot, mine look great and run great. But I know the SD70s are going to get a lot of votes so I actually voted for the GP38-2, seeing it was still looking for its first touchdown when I voted - for the simple reason that it's such a versatile loco both in terms of prototype and era. Plus it's a great entry loco into Z. But all in all, any modern loco will make me happy, and a happy Z scaler I am.

Just a minor point of correction... The ACL did have E8B Units. 765-B and 766-B. They were acquired by the ACL in 1965 from EMD after being traded by the RF&P in that same year on an order for GP35s. They went on to be assigned SCL numbers 670-B and 671-B and both were retired in 1972 not being conveyed to Amtrak. They were the former RF&P 1052 and 1053. Yellow and black was the only ACL/SAL paint scheme that they ever wore. My regards, CliffThanks for correcting my correction - guess that means I was right in the first place I couldn't find any pics on the web but Morning Sun's "Seaboard Coast Line in Color" does actually have two or three nice shots of E8A-B formations pulling the "Everglades". And well, some locos do look good in black (and yellow)... (hint, hint) cheers, Adrian

I totally forgot. MTL has made a change out coupler Magne-Matic for the Marklin coupler. That is they quickest way to mate the AZL locomotive with the Marklin ACL passenger cars. As for ACL, I am not sure they had E8B units? Sincerely, Hans Thanks Hans, that's a really helpful pointer. And yes, you're quite right of course, ACL didn't have any E8B units, what was floating through my mind were E7B units - completely different story, of course. cheers Adrian

Personally I think I'd prefer to have a transition car (probably the baggage) with a Marklin coupler at one end rather than to have that unsightly coupler on my loco. But that's just a gut feeling, no practical experience so far.
So does that mean that only Marklin will be offering an ACL B unit ? In that case the transition car obviously wouldn't help.

That makes sense, Hans, and sounds like a sensible approach to me. Personally I think it's great to have just 1 entry-level locomotive, and given it's the GP38-2 and there are lots of railroads available off the shelf ties it up nicely. I could well imagine that this loco can "lure" folks into Z - but IMHO it's the high standard of quality of "what's also available" which will make them stay. So yep, I'm definitely happy with AZL's policy. cheers Adrian

That's a tough one between the well car and the 23,000 gallon tank car, in the end the well car came top with me, but really anything that's riding the rails today gets my thumbs up.
