I've been playing with some commercial ballast options for Rokuhan track and tried Kato's ballast (intended for N and HO), looks reasonable from typical viewing distances. A bit chunky of course but having painted the rail sides, weathering next should tone it all down a bit. John Raildig.comAttachments:

Looks good. I used the fine gray WS ballast. I stayed out of the center of the track and I put a little dam around the turnout switch on the side of the turnout. The flash make the color look lighter, but to the eye, it looks to match very well. The only other consideration was to be very careful around the slider on the points. No issues so far The rails need painting and some ballast weathering. Trey

Nice touch with the dam, little details like that really work well. That WS ballast does look good, it's nice to see we have good ballast options in Z. Frank over at Z Scale Hobo wrote to me and said he's selling another good option with NOCH ballast. John Raildig.com

John, that looks pretty amazing! I myself use the aforementioned WS fine gray ballast which blends really well with the Micro-Track I use. But I must say I really like the surrounding terrain you modelled both sides of your track - what did you use there? cheerZ Adrian

But I must say I really like the surrounding terrain you modelled both sides of your track - what did you use there? cheerZ Adrian Hi Adrian, The terrain was formed by using OrthoTape plaster strips over aluminum foil. The ground foams are from Scenic Express and the rocks / talus was made by using extra bit of rocks I had cast in gray gypsum. I take these extra bits and run them in an inexpensive coffee grinder to both roughen the surface and overall round them out a bit, sort of like an aggressive rock tumbler. John Raildig.com
