You can set the original Marklin car on an isolated siding and run it on regular DC.

Over the last 2 weekends I converted a AZL Pullman heavyweight Parlor car "Dahlia" to a MoPac Dining-Parlor car #10202 with an observation deck. I removed the rear vestibule and used the interior vestibule wall as the outside back wall. I opened up some of the windows on the sides to make them larger. I removed the stock "glass" behind those windows and used clear acetate from MTL freight car packaging to replace it. I added some Micro Structures Victorian fencing to make the platform railing. I removed all of the lettering and replaced it with decals that I designed and printed.

I burned up the first 2 Marklin locomotives I bought when I started in Z scale in 1972 by using a controller that I had been using for N scale. I learned the hard way...

I think those of us who have a Smokey Bear caboose don't want to sell them. We wouldn't have a complete set if we did.

The curved handrails make it easy to grab and hold onto to get to the steps as the train starts to move.

The turnouts are not the problem with the MTL SD40-2. The plows on the front and back hit the track of the turnout at the bottom. You just need to file or sand the bottom of the plow until it does not touch any more.
To answer your question, though. MTL and Rokuhan turnouts will replace the Marklin turnouts. You will have the same problem with the MTL SD40-2s, though, if you do not file or sand the plows.

Put them both on the track the way that you want them to run. They will both run in the same direction.
