Just giving my opinion about what you guys said. I partly agree and respect everyone's choice. For my part, I do not think age matters here: I'm not even 33 and for already 17years I know that the only era I would love to model is not the modern one but I prefer older times. So for me, steams are as important to model as diesels'. And particularly in Z-scale there's still very few steams modeled, 2 or 3 from Marklin, 1 from MTL and luckily for few years now AZL has significantly raised their number. Diesels seem to be "easier" to produce, easier to personalize, to paint on your own, etc, and there's still more models available than steams'. A pity when you see how amazing are the mikados, challenger or AC12, all the details close to perfection....
In a way, both of them should be taken care of, and any years as well, but my preference goes for steams.

Oops just came across this thread. Frst, age has little or nothing to do with what we model. Rather, t is where our interests lie. Many of us have broad interests and include both 19th and 20th century stock from all over the world. Others are into freight or, lije me, passenger lines regardkess of era. Others of us model specific lines or railroads. My particular focus, as you might guess from my handle is the passenger division of Illinois Central. If I had the space I would model all their routes and maybe invent some of my own.
All that leads to the belief that perhaps this "wishlist" should not be restrictive but target types or classes of trains, routes and lines as well as eras and the equipment they used and/or use. For example I don't recall anyone mentionng the "electrics" such as the IC comuter line or the South Shore Railway or (correct me if I'm in error) one of the east coast lines (New York Central?). However, I realize that may be too broad. But whaf I'm thinking is specific equipment that is linked to a particular category (i.e. specific locos and cars from the Civil War or specific locos used for military transport).
Just a thought

I spend a lot of time (Robert probably more) trying to figure out what is possible for AZL. I have drawn up different tenders from Steam locomotives we would love to produce like American Civil War prototypes. The tenders are often too small to fit our current motors and tender electric pick-up is difficult as well. It would be very easy to power up a vintage Box car, but the push drivetrain is something I would like to avoid. But we do come back to this from time to time so let us see what the future brings. It would probably be a brass product if we gave it the green light. IC commuter electrics would also be a brass category product. Just bear in mind that our main factory takes on only one or two brass projects every year and we are lucky to get one of those projects. Sincerely, Hans

Yes. SD-9s Redbird and Blackbird scheme for the CB&Q. They also ran way into the BN era. PA1/PB1 would be nice. And yes Uboats. Those in Mopac colors. (there are 4 of us here on the forum and I know a few more that run MP too.)

I still want a gas electric doodlebug. I keep hoping that Shapeways would get just a shade better and I could talk someone into making one, but then what to power it with? If I remember it was thought of but rejected in favor of the RDC. I do not know if this could be counted as a locomotive, though they can move by themselves, but a "Big Hook" wrecking crane, would be pretty cool.

I would love to see the GE 8-40c in Conrail colors. I would think that you could sell more by making an interchangeable cab for both the standard and safety cab.
