View AttachmentIt’s great what AZL has done for the American Railroads . It would be nice to see them model some foreign country’s like Märklin does for U.S.A. Railroads. That being said I like to see the TGV LYria train . Like the Kato n scale shown above. I know Rokuhan has Japans bullet trains already in Z scale. Just like to see some European bullet trains. Me too! 😉

A few notes:
There will also be an SP 4 pack. Mr. Kluz has not yet received them.
Also the Spirit of UP locos are a very limited run with only about 50 released. Pictures do not do them justice.
Aloha from the Pacific HQ

Pumping to the top. Any progress on the availability of these extended couplers? Rob Kluz at zTrack has them. Send him an email and I think he will send you what you need.

Will these locos have the new or the old chassis/pcb board. I want get a head start in locating decoders but don't want to buy something I can't use. Thanks! Old chassis / PCB. Digitrax DZ123z0 TCS AZL4 (That’s from memory, and I’ve had a martini. 🍸 😀)

In your defense, the first run of the GP38 are the worse engine AZL. It’s just in front of the last run of the SD70M, so they don’t all run great. That’s from somebody that has an about 90 locomotive. Also, let’s not kill the messenger for telling the truth. What you say is true! First run of AZL GP38-2 were made at Sanda Kan (aka Bachmann - before we switched to our current factory) 10 years later, many of them have “zinc rot” (we do still sell replacement chassis / motors at our cost to support the product even though it is 9 years past warranty expired) And I don’t think we’ve ever tried to “kill the messenger” around here. We might be a bit grumpy if we feel like the criticism is unfair, but the guiding principle of this place is to be a safe place where we can all exchange ideas and views about our favorite scale. Thanks to all for your support!

BTW.... am I the only one who finds it odd that someone would judge a whole company based on one locomotive released 12 years ago? And then be part of a forum for a company they detest so much? Curious, right? Nope. Makes perfect sense to me! 🤣😂🤣 A better question might have been: “but how will you ever know if AZL locomotives meet your Kato reliability expectations if you won’t ever try them again?” 😀 And in fairness, I don’t think he ever said “detest” …. So we’ve got a chance to win ‘em back!!

hello I run DCC (digitrax decoders and digitrax system with a voltage reducer) In the past I was a big voltage reducer fan, but no more. In thousand of hours of testing on hundreds of locomotives from all manufacturers, I’ve found the N scale setting of 12 volts works perfectly well for all Z scale locomotives and decoders. I do strongly suggest a better short circuit protection device than what is included in the Digitrax booster. I use the DCC Specialties PSX tonystrains.com/product/dcc-specialties-psxx1-circuit-breaker

Outstanding work, and I have to admit that I use the same technique for the narrow gauge sections of my Gotthard layout. I've also found that you can make flex track, and very unusual track turnouts / configurations easily by printing the cross ties / sleepers with an SLA printer (I use a Formlabs 2) - think 3 way turnouts, and narrow gauge crossing standard gauge.
Two comments: 1) I've found that contact cement (weldwood) seems to be a better bonding agent between the rails and the SLA resin. It had a touch of flex to it, so rails do not "pop" off over time - and the bond is very strong.
2) I use Micro Engineering code 40 rails for my narrow gauge lines, but folks should be aware that Marklin wheel sets need code 55 to function properly. Marklin flanges will touch the ties with code 40 rail.
Please keep up the great work!

Oh, and before "sombody" says anything (cough, cough) we ARE working on a locomotive project that will include the BNSF Heritage I livery.

Can’t wait Hans! Albeit some time in the making 😀 If they are of similar quality as the SD40-2s I procured it’s gonna be another home run. BTW: Cant wait to see “The Spirit” in its full glory; sneak peak looks awesome! Keep us posted! -Tiest OK - here is another "Sneaky peek"....

Do these locomotives have flangeless centre axles ? Yes. The initial production had flanged wheels. They suffered from poor performance. We switched to flangeless center wheels and performance became close perfect. What is the minimum radius they will go round - 195 or 220 mm ? Thanks for any help. 195mm radius recommended minimum.
