Yet another nice train.
Utahrails.net is an excellent site for all things UP. Since I still have my passenger train notes at hand, a couple more thoughts:
The Portland Rose was a secondary train to the City of Portland. As such prior to 1952 it would be running what I like to call Western Two-Tone grey. It's like your challenger tender, light colored body with dark window panel, or the simplified Two-Tone grey, light grey body with white on black striping above and below the window panels. Hopefully in a couple of weeks either or both schemes will be available.
After 1952 the train would be Armour Yellow and significantly HW until the mid to late 1950s. The train was also a mail train and would be pulling 3-5 mail cars. Power could also be E or F units.
A couple of other Up trains to look into would be the Idahoan, which was merged into the Portland Rose in 1955, or the Utahn, a SLC to LA train.

As always, I love the Niles canyon and still drive through it about a dozen times per year. But it's been a couple of years since the Ztrack story and maybe it's time to add a few more details: Consider the semaphore on the left or the telegraph poles on the right. Tank locomotive would be optional. Mark

Would love to, Mark, But unfortunately Karl sold the layout long time ago. Thus, the pictures is all I have and some good memories........ Best, Sven
