Good afternoon,
This is meant to be a fun thread and provoke some thought. What are 3 pieces (locos, cars, etc.) that have been produced in Z-scale that you would like to have in your collection or on your roster. You could kind of think of as this as a Holy Grail type of thing (maybe UP Heavyweights) or something that is difficult to find, etc. I know that not very many years back, AZL made much more limited runs of things and I watched how they would sell out very fast. With me being pretty new at Z-scale, I have found pretty much everything I want at this point. I have a list of things I want but I have been focusing my buying on things that don't come up for sale very often. Like most of you, I have a somewhat limited budget. For example, I would like an AZL SD75M in BNSF colors, but I know these will available for awhile so, instead, I bought some Full Throttle cars from Rob that aren't seen for sale very often. Here are the things I would like to find/buy.
AZL 23,500 Tank Cars in UTLX scheme
Markin 88075 Commodore loco and tender
Micro-Trains BN Weathered Set w/SD40-2

1. I would love to have one or two more Undec RDC-1's in my possession. I got one almost as soon as I got into Z, and have been unable to find another one. I'm close to buying some B&M and stripping them but I sure would like to find some undecs. 2. I would love to have one or two of Hobo Tim's Maxi-IV's. (TTX and/or BNSF) Slim chance, for sure. 3. Last one is a tough decision. Would probably have to say an MTL BN SD40-2.
Honorable mentions: A number of AZL PS2-CD covered hoppers, one each UTLX and PROCOR tank cars, and a couple of Hobo Tim cantilever signals.

Fun idea. Most of mine are not what I can't find, but rather what I want but am just not willing to pay so much for it.
1. I'd like an AZL GS4. They were all out of the daylight when I finally had the extra money. Would still love/rather see a freedom train...but that was another thread. If new run is produced this is one I would put money down on..
2. I'd like the Casey Jones set from markln. I've been tempted many times, just not willing to pay the cash for it maybe one day if the price dips or I'm feeling fat in the wallet.
3. That brass southern high hood SD 45 was sweet, however, there is hope, AZL claims to be making the new SD 45 in HH, That is in my price range for sure.

Hi everyone, I have just listed a brass SD 45 and a few other brass items, this is the listing number 311543298900, I don't really want to sell, but my car is on its last legs, so something has to go, I hope they go to a good new home

Man, talk about bizarre...after posting this yesterday, I get an email from US Z-SCALE last night saying "Last two UNDEC RDC-1's now on SALE"....I actually read the e-mail an hour after it was sent and immediately responded only to find out that they both sold.
Talk about heartbreaking. AND, I swear I've checked their site a dozen times looking for the undec RDC's to no avail. So I don't know if I just searched wrong or they were newly discovered or what. The other thing is...how many Z-scalers are looking for Undec RDC's and happened to be camped out on their email at 10pm on a Monday night? I just found the whole thing a little weird. But, that's the story of my life. ;-)

We have another run of RDC-1´s coming up later this year. Roadnames will be communicated later.

Please Please Please do the Trinity Railway Express! Then my problems will all be solved. I promise to do my part to promote them the locals here in Dallas and Fort Worth. And I will buy as many (legit) road numbers as you announce.

While we are on the topic of RDCs, please do Alaska Railroad or ATSF again. I would buy at least one and maybe two.

It would be nice to do the ATSF in the "as delivered" paint. Dave I would point out that the ATSF always ran their RDCs as a pair. This news makes me wonder whether I should put my SP #10 "as delivered" project on the shelf until about the end of the year?
As far as the topic of the thread, I'd go for an AZL PA-1 (SP) but I'd really want The Shay.

We will have both old and new Railroads among the new RDC release. Shay? Personally I would love to make a Shay, but it is not viable in Z as an injection model. Maybe in 10 years.

Hans, Actually I was thinking of Lajos' Shay. I sat next to him at the dinner in 2010. The Shay is a true work of art: both visually and mechanically. I wouldn't expect such a locomotive to be produced in Z for a long time. Lajos suggested to me that it cost him about the price of about a dozen Big Boys to build it.

As for the RDC (great news, by the way) I'd really like to see Amtrak (I guess that's a likely choice) and Port Authority of Allegheny County (not going to happen, I know).
The three items? a) MTL Amtrak MOW train (I'd actually prefer an AZL version...) b) some AZL 53' well car sets (I missed most of them) c) some more Full Throttle (Pennzee) 100t hoppers (they sell out faster than you can say "sold out").

Thanks Rob - I have them all but I'm contemplating getting another full set, they look so darn good I might just ignore the running numbers. ... which makes me realize I might want to substitute the Amtrak MOW train on my list with AZL's P&LE GP38-2, they went like a flash and I totally missed those. Hmm? What's that? What do you mean "AZL never offered P&LE GP38-2s"?? Surely that can't be... (HINT HINT ) cheerZ Adrian
