... which makes me realize I might want to substitute the Amtrak MOW train on my list with AZL's P&LE GP38-2, they went like a flash and I totally missed those. Hmm? What's that? What do you mean "AZL never offered P&LE GP38-2s"?? Surely that can't be... (HINT HINT ) cheerZ Adrian I have Art if anyone wants it... Rob

I have found, but not yet purchased, the Marklin 88075 Commodore Vanderbilt loco and tender for a reasonable (not cheap) price. I am interested in this loco but I am not sure if the proper cars are available for it to pull. The only Z-scale NYC cars I have found are the beautiful AZl brass set (out of the question because of price) or the Heavyweight series. Would this loco have ever pulled this type of heavyweights? Thanks for your help.

If I remember correctly I saw a picture of the Commodore pulling ordinary Heavyweights as the ones you can get from AZL, just need to swap the coupler on the Marklin engine.

It was late 1934 when the NYC Put the shrouds on a 3 year old Hudson and Named it the Commodore Vanderbilt. it was early 1935 when it went into service pulling the then Still Heavyweight 20th century limited. And I remember reading somewhere it was also one of the first Locomotives to start pulling Streamlined Cars So to answer your question The Commodore saw service pulling both Heavyweights as well as streamlined cars on the 20th Century Limited
I've pulled 6 AZL Heavyweights with my Marklin 88075 (all I had at the time) But I don't think it will pull the AZL Brass set as they are quite a bit heavier.

Three things for my railroad
1-GE U-boats both B and C versions
2-GP40-2s
3-GP50/60s
Last two could use the GP 38-2 drive.

The Coach Yard produces some of the most accurate products available. I swapped data and information with them extensively when I was working on the AZL Heavyweights.

Since this is a list of 3 things that was made that you wished you had, I would say, 1) some more of those flatcar kits with bulkheads, I have one somewhere but dont know where and if all of the parts are with it. CB&Q did have them. 2) There were some kind of one off metal flatcars that were produced by someone, and they were there and gone really fast. Simple but very nice ones, and I just did not have the money or any way of getting them sent over here at the time. 3) Some of those hand built CB&Q outside braced boxcars. What makes that so bad is, it was from me moaning and begging that they were made (perhaps they were going to be made anyways, and it was just the right timing) but again I was going though lean times. I know, nobody wants box cars, and nobody wants boxcars with roofwalks. But if anyone looks at all those films, of the steam to diesel era, you will see a LOT of different types of boxcars, and you will see quite a few of the outside braced ones. They look so cool behind F3s and F7s and especially behind steam engines.

Exactly those. I still need to build the gondolas, and I hope I can still find the decals for them

Gerd, I love your stuff but my SS check only goes so far and that is not even close to affording your incredible models.
