About these welcomed G&W Geeps:
Are they only available with roadnumbers defined and set to place?
Because I'm needing them with definite RN that seem not to match with what I've seen on AZL's samples. I'm indeed wondering whether these Geeps are available with no roadnumber at all, letting owner to put his/her own samples (#9412, 9417 and 9418 in my own case).

Dom Hi Dom, They all have road numbers. It was a new idea to leave the logos off - we probably should have done one without road numbers too. We are trying - we don't get everything perfect. I think the road number will be one of the easier things to change. To get you started in the right direction, the background orange color was specified as Pantone 1595c, but you may have to mix a bit to get a perfect color match. Good luck! -Rob(A)

Dom
Not sure in which geographical context your roadnumbers will have to fit in, but in 2014 GP40 #3000 was running on the New England Central still wearing its B&P logo and number (just google "Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad leading New England Central in Palmer Mass" for a youtube video showing that). I believe it kept its loco number after being sold to the NECR.
I myself am going to leave the numbers as they are and just pretend that it's Genesee & Wyoming corporate practice to do so, and until I get around to decaling the blank logos I'll even pretend the paint shop painted out the former lettering and then forgot to apply the new one - I've seen worse mistakes coming out of railroad paintshops.

Thank you for your replies Folks. Indeed the locomotives I'm working on are very specific as in the prototype world they're working in a remote mexican location, on a railroad that used to be a G&W subsdiary. Anyway, I've two more undec units, and I won't drop them. I'll continue to work on them, as I planned before G&W became available on the shelf.
But for further needs, why not? Indeed I would be interrested of any return of experience if anyone here tries to remove roadnumbers.

Hi Dom,
I had the same problem with my grande gp30. It had road number 3022 which did not match with the. Bilboard Grande logo. I have used a very fine grit sand paper to remove the 'aspen gold' numbers. The black paint was not noticeably damaged. In my case I had printed negative (transpirant) numbers on a black background, applied over a 'apen golden' patch. Since your locomotive is orange with black numbers, you can simply print black numbers on transpirant decal paper and apply under the cab window. This way you might be able to add letters to the logo on the long hood sides. /Frank

As someone who enjoys modeling contemporary short lines, I just wanted to chime in to say how welcome a surprise the G&W GP38-2 release was last month. This particular model complements AZL's modern freight cars very well, and is great for layouts and operations where SD40-2s, and SD70 variants are just too much loco - and GP30s and GP35s too old.
Additional limited run GP38-2s painted for other popular short line operators and locomotive leasing companies would be most welcome. Such schemes would accommodate modelers from many regions and reflect the reality of today's railroad scene. Here's one idea I'd like to pitch - GATX (GMTX) Leasing - blue & white.
Oh, and for the bigger runs of GP38-2s coming later in 2016 - Conrail!

How about a High Hood GP 38? Now that we got the HH SD 45 NS is still running them, although harder to find these days.

I had now recently one GP38-2 with a crumbling chassis, and I guess about 40 or so went through my hands, owned by customers or myself. I guess it's batch related. The Chinese supplier of AZL might get "creative" down the track and trying to make things cheaper and of course not informing their customer. I have the same issue at my work: material is good for a while, than they get fancy, you fix them up and everything is good again until next time....

We changed factories and the problems are gone. We also do more complete QA now than we did a few years back. All we can do is learn from our experiences and try to make things better going forward. Thanks to all for your support -Rob(A) AZL

Hopefully we get correctly numbered Santa Fe GP38s... The ones currently produced had numbers for non Dynamic brake GP38-2s...

When I started in Z, I took it as an opportunity to model roads and eras that I normally don't model in N scale. It's nice starting with a clean slate and being able to hone in on what you buy. With that being said, I'd really like to see Chessie and Conrail GP38-2s and also high hood models in Southern, Norfolk and Western and NS. For quite a few years now, NS has almost always had a GP38-2 High Hood in the Nitro Yard here locally. 5041 and 5130 seem to be there for prolonged amounts of time.
