I'm currently painting the first of my 3 undecs... That's for my mexican layout project. -Airbrushed the shell orange. -Handbrushed nose, cab and hood's top grey -And finally setting in place my own ink printed double black stripes. The left hand side is now completed. Next steps: -completion of striping -setting the remaining of the decals in place (logo, roadnumbers) -Setting handrails to place -cutting trucks' AZL couplers -glueing MTL #905 coupler box at each end of the shell -making pilots (I don't know yet how I'll do but will find a solution anyway) -and finally doing the same with my other 2 units! Nicely done. The parent company of that railroad operates here in Ohio called the Indiana and Ohio railroad and has the same paint scheme.

Have you looked at making the pilot out of styrene?

Styrene seems to be a good solution indeed, I already had thoughts about. Thanks for sharing your idea. As of G&W, as far as I know it's indeed a corporation that consists of dozens and dozens companies, all shortlines, or regional railroads at best. Mainly in the US, a handle in Canada, that one in Mexico until 2007 (no more now), one in Europe, a few in South America and a few in Australia as well. And all wear the same paintscheme indeed, that's why I was suggesting AZL to produce it as there are only logos to change.. Dom

Striping is now complete. Dom

Next step: cutting single strips, 3 mm long in this set of decals, in order to replicate rear cab windows. Rather simple, but first I've to find a device that works as a crate and that holds the shell vertically nose down, in order to prevent decals from slipping before they're dry. Don't know yet how I'm going to proceed, but I'll find a trick sooner or later. Dom

Looks good Dom. Try putting decals on moisted tissue paper, instead of soaking into water. Works much better in my opinion.
Another way to get rear windows is to just drill a small hole and file the window with help of a small diamant file. (You can get these at Conrad in Europe)

Thank you Frank, wil do that with my decals. As of drilling windows, I don't want to, as I'm not sure of my skills for that and don't want to mess a shell I guess it's rather difficult to purchase as a spare part. Dom

Thank you for the kind comment. Yeah, guess they have GP38-2s as well. And as far as I know there's another G&W subsidiary in Oregon, will try to recall the name. Dom

Still slowly working... One thing I first forgot that drove me in a sort of trouble when I recovered the situation, was forgetting to paint grey side, aft and front walkways. Then I did it, first with a brush way too broad that gave an ugly result. I resumed with a far smaller brush and Tamiya tape, tearing off some decal here and there that I had to replace, but finally the result is ok for me. Just have not to forget that step on my subsequent units. Today I cut and put into place fake rear windows, made in black decal stripes. Maybe a little too broad, I'll think about a possible replacement with smaller samples. But anyway I consider the result worth to be done again with my other 2 units to receive this paintscheme. Looks like the grey paint on roof and nose didn't appreciate my handling. No problem, that'll work for weathering... Next step, setting to place logo and roadnumber decals. To be done later this week. Dom

I was wrong. The only G&W subsidiary in Oregon is indeed Portland & Western.
