Time to dig this post out of soil.... I finally found a solution, using AZL's spare pilots #61099-5 made for SD70s. I just had to file them on their sides, as initially they're too wide for GP38-2 front and aft steps. But MU hose a perfect scale for symetric filing. Then I swapped AZL coupler box on pilot assembly with a MTL #905. No need for filing, there is enough room to allow chassis and shell separation. In order to put them to place, I cut 4 pieces of square 2 mm wide styrene strut and glued them inside steps (sorry guys, I'm not that used with your odd US measurements, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 or 43/2557 inches, that simply doesn't speak to me ). Then I painted pilot assembly with the same Humbrol Matt Yellow paint I already used for lower shell sides and stairs. I had to put 4 layers to completely cover Pilot's black plastic. Dom

Here we are. Now I'll have to remove parasitic yellow paint on couplers' side. And further on, next big step : cutting black stripe decals in order to set an inverted multiple V on pilots. Dom

My goal beeing this : It was a one -shot try, as I set pilot on the locomotive's shell using superglue. You have to file the upper part of pilot as well, until you reach the upper part of screw's well. In spite of that, couplers lie a little bit lower than expected, on the opposite as first measured with a MTL coupler gauge. But operational tests are ok, and that is all what accounts. Dom
