Yep your right Mark E1s made to E8 specs and listed as E8m my mistake. Hello Dave & Mark, You are correct. The units 1952/1953 E8Am and E8Bm units (80-87) assumed the builders numbers and original build date of the trade-in E1s and the builders plate included the rebuild date. They were also derated to 2000 HP due to the reuse of some of the trade components. If I recall correctly, they also had E7 style control stands. I'll have to check my documentation on that one though. An interesting side note is that this rebuilding also included the previously oft-rebuilt one-spot twins into B units 83A and 84A. From the standpoint of outward appearance though, these units looked very much like any E8A or E8B. They later all became trade fodder to EMD on modern freight power. My regards, Cliff

Thanks for the tip on the couplers. Just got my ACL E8 (got stuck in the black hole of the Richmond, CA sorting depot for ever UGGG) The MT 902's work really well on the Marklin passenger rolling stock. It removes a lot of the gap between cars, almost too close but still work on 195mm. Anyway the marklin ACL set looks great behind the AZL E8. Dropped in a TCS AZL4 decoder and Instantly a great running DCC Passenger train. Still amazed at how far Z scale has come in the last couple of years. Just wish the marklin set was more than 6 cars oh well
