If I could get a shell made for an Amtrak F40PH, what AZL chassis would be best? Really want one to pull some Superliners!

That is a really good question!!! We have shells (even from Harald Freudenreich) too, and are looking for a good chassis. The MTL ones are so hard to get. Gerd? Best, Sven

Would the F59PHI chassis work? The F40PH length is 56' and the F59PHI is 58' so they are scaled very close. The F59PHI has the correct trucks. Plus you may be able to use the porch from the F59PHI... and best part yet.... you can get thees very inexpensively through AZL Direct.

Just need a F40PH shell to match.

The F59PHI sets with Bombardier cars go for $99.00. But the locos by themselves are $69.00! So no kidding, most economical way to do this project! www.azldirect.com/azl-locomotives/f59phiCheck the listing to see if it is the loco only or the set. Rob

I ground some F59 chassis’s down to fit the lower height of the F40 shell and the overall length is still too great. I suspect GP38 works the best.

While one has to consider the internal model dimensions, as Commodore did, the GP30 has the same length as the F40PH at 56' 2" and the wheel base is a foot (0.055") shorter and the roof is about 4" prototype shorter.

That’s what you said last time… (2019). Tried it then. I sold that GP30 to CWRR. It’s chassis was too short.

It still seems like it should be a good fit. The chassis should be narrow enough as the GP30 has the external walkways. Also the GP30 prototype is about 6" shorter. The cab hood perhaps? Maybe its time to start begging again? I should use a couple painted in ACE train colors. Mark

There's been two recently on that auction site that someone has made, really nice good lookin' locos, but on a M-T F9 of all things! Looked really good, and they both went for over $400.00! Dang, I really want one!
