My printer isn't working right now, but I did get a couple prints done before that. I took a shot as designing a double-sheathed boxcar. I like how it turned out, especially after painting. I didn't try to make a wooden door, just the car sides, but you can kinda see how the door looks like it might be a wood door. I don't know if or when I'll get my printer back up, but I do want to print one or two more of these.

That's pretty cool, except for the loc and tracks-you've made everything!
Nice job!

So, my Mini Delta never did get up and running. While early in a print something happened and the printer could no longer read the nozzle temperature sensor. I checked for loose connections and found none. I updated the firmware and it still didn't work. I sent two emails to Monoprice and they never replied. I bought another printer from Amazon. I may have got a defective unit, because the nozzle jammed within half a day. I was able to return it to Amazon for a full refund. I put that towards a Flashforge Adventurer 3 Lite. I've had the Lite a few days now, and it's printing great! One nice feature is that, with their Flashprint slicer, you can sent print files to the printer via wifi. I'm hoping to have more prints to share here soon. Attached is a photo showing you how much better the Lite is over the Mini Delta. The combine on the left was one of the last Delta prints. The one on the right is a Flashforge print. You can see the banding on the Delta print, while the Flashforge print has smooth sides. Both were printed in high-quality mode on both printers. This is something else I'm learning about 3d printing and printers.

I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it in Z scale, but I was able to print a streamlined fluted-side passenger coach. My painting skills aren't the best, but I think it turned out okay . I shot video of my new cars running last night, so the next YT video should be up this coming weekend. I'll post the link here once it goes live.

Can you just make the fluted sections? It might be able to be sectioned into existing smooth-side cars.
I'd like to give THAT a try...

I doubt I could make the fluted sections on a filament printer. The fluting is just half a millimeter high with the same amount of space between raised bit. They print well on my printer in fine mode, but only as part of the overall model. You probably could do such panels if you were willing to work with resin.
I have the design of a fluted a baggage car made. I'm thinking about designing a fluted dining car. That's probably as far as I'll go for now. I may have a couple heavyweight cars ready to show before too long...

Here are those heavyweight cars I promised, a baggage car & and baggage-rpo. I also printed up a couple more boxcars and painted them to be express boxcars. And just to let all of you know, I should be uploading my next video this weekend.

Very nice, enjoyed that! For a smaller layout, it's quite nice!

I ordered a few vehicles off Amazon early in December. They arrived Friday, so I painted them up and placed them on the layout.

I'm currently shopping for one and now I'm considering the Flashforge. For detail I'd prefer a resin printer but I don't really want to deal with the mess and odors (we live in a small space). If I really want to print in resin I send the file out. If you don't mind me asking, what type of filament are you using? Your prints look great, I love the way most everything on your layout you created yourself! Steve W

Steve W-
First off, thanks for the compliment!
As to your question about filaments, I've used both Hatchbox and Flashforge PLA. I don't see that much of a difference between them. I believe that quality has more to do with the printer settings than the filament. I am still learning, though. I've started following the 3D Printing Professor YouTube channel, and while he does more reviews than talk about process, I have learned more about the process of printing from watching his videos.
I agree with you on resin printers. You do have to be careful handling most resin, but even if resins come out that are safe to touch and breathe, there will still be the effort of cleaning and curing prints. If you have a space to deal with the process, then resin printers are worth it for small models. As it seems you don't, go with a filament printer.
Flashforge has been around a good long while now, and I've seen lots of positive reviews of the Adventurer 3. The main difference between the 3 and the 3 Lite is the lack of a camera to view printing. The one downside to both models is that you either have to use .5 kilogram spools, or you have to make a spool to handle the more common 1 kilogram spools. Otherwise they seem to be good printers that last.

Robert,
Thank you for the additional info. 3D printing is quite complex for sure. I definitely do not have the proper space and setup for resin. I will be taking a closer look at the Flashforge printers. As mentioned if I really want to get fine detail I'll send the file out and let someone else deal with the mess!
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
