Correct. So if you have a chassis that had degraded, and do not want to opt in for the upgrade, just email me. I will need proof of the damage such as photo. We are only doing this for the degraded chassis. The parts are from the first run that do not have the condition. Frankly, it appears that if the chassis has not started to degrade at this point, it likely won't. Drop me an email at ztrack@aol.com or rob@ztrack.com and we can troubleshoot the board and work out the details for the chassis. Rob I still have two unwarped frame halves vs two or more frame halves and/or crumbles..or at least I did when I last had it out of the box. Working from home pretty much forced me to forfeit some hobby space for home office space. Re: stalling, I had been giving it pre-emptive checks/adjustments to make sure the contacts were in place where the stalling became was less of a problem. I'll send you an e-mail after I have a chance to try running it for a bit WITHOUT the pre-emptive checks (and with the shell removed) to get some more specific information to work with on that particular issue.

I can vouch for AZL promptly replacing a defective chassis. I have purchased a bunch of 38's over the years and many were afflicted with the decay. AZL replaced every single one and I appreciate their quick response. I have been able to return some of my favorite engines to service.
I do hope that AZL will consider offering these new upgraded chassis for those who might be scratch building. There are shells sold on Shapeways for example and it would be a shame to have to buy a complete engine just for the chassis.

I wouldn't be doing model trains in any form without their wonderful Z creations.

Considering that the first batch of AZL GP38s were released in 2012, it is actually rather amazing that AZL is offering continued support for these products in 2020. Truly a company that stands behind its products.

Any chance of offering new pilots with the same operating couplers as the RS-3?

I finally found the box with my GP38-2's, and they no longer run on DCC. Just BUZZ on one and nothing on the other. My BN Don Bouchard has a lengthwise bend like a bananna, and is fractured everywhere, but I was able to remove the shell. My SP 167 however was very difficult to get out of the shell, and started to crumble. I have not yet removed my DCC decoders, but I know the frames will crumble more when I take the decoder out. They both have severe Zamak Poisoning.. AKA Zinc Pest!

What's sad is that these locos ran so so sweet years ago. I tried to run my BN Don Bouchard last summer at the Salt Lake NTS, but it just buzzed when I tried to run it, and I didn't bother to look into the issue then. I have about 10 or 15 locos that need to be cleaned up before running at shows again, but I have a lot of locos, so I usually put another one in place of a balky loco, with the intent of cleaning them up some day. I guess this winter I should go through them all.

Since we end up with an entirely NEW chassis, the trade-in is very tempting. Given how smoothly these latest release GP38s have been by my observations, it is looking more like a no-brainer to start over fresh.

I've had several succumb to the zinc pest, but it's on my "Z to-do-list" just to ship all my GP38-2's chassis in for the upgrade.

I've shipped in my old Milw GP38 chassis last year, and got them promptly back! Maybe a two week turnaround.
Speaking of, any chances of getting just running chassis, I recently got two shells, sans chassis??

Just installed a tcs dcc controller, added a LED for the mars light on my New received chassis and my Grande GP40-2 is great running locomotive again. Thx for the service AZL!
