MKT: The cab striping is too steep. And there is slight variation in the stripes of two groups of MKT engines. Its hard to explain so see image below: Cab roof color changes with ere. I’m working my way through. KCS OK: Southern OK: UP OK: BNSF OK: Frisco OK: Conrail: Check trucks. Many ex Penn Central Conrail units have AAR trucks. Also just noticed you have road specific handrail variations. Very cool! -Matt

OK This should be the rest.
LN OK:
NS:
The stripes on the side stills are leaning the opposite way. The are currently “\” leaning and they should be “/” leaning.
I know road numbers are not final, but #2213 is a horse logo unit with AAR trucks. Otherwise the general paint scheme is accurate.
CP:
Bell is red? It became brass in the most recent AZL artwork revision.
Amtrack OK:
CN:
The handrail on the engineer’s side, just in front of the cab I think should be black. I have only seen photos where the handrail on the fireman’s side is painted white leading into the cab, but not the engineers side.
I can’t tell from easily available photos if the top of the hood, above the headlights, is red coated in soot, or black. On the earlier paint jobs it is clearly red. Once the yellow side stripes go on, it is hard to see what color it is. It almost looks black.
Cotton Belt:
Same grey side of battery box as mentioned on SP. No other issues.
Reading:
Green Bell.
Great Northern OK:
Penn Central OK:
CBQ OK:
DRGW:
The rear of the battery box should be yellow/orange.
I’m not sure on the yellow/orange colors on these based on photos. My general impression is that these would be aspen gold. Like the color used on the AZL DRGW GP7s as opposed to the DRGW SD45s orange.
---------------
It is not my intention for this to be seen as being critical of the work AZL does. I only wanted to provide a second set of eyes, and it was kind of fun as a Easter egg hunt. It is likely many of these things would be caught in AZLs review. I'm mostly just looking at photos on Rail Pictures Archives for reference, so I can be wrong also. That being said, I have realized it is near impossible to find two engines that are exactly the same. I have also looked at Athearn and Broadway Limited Versions of these engines in HO scale, and when you look too close you realize everyone's models have some inaccuracies. Even though I found some issues, AZL does a much better Job than others, and that's just going over their draft artwork. So Hans and Rob, thank you for putting in all the hard work you do on bringing us excellent models!

Thanks Matt for all the comments. Think we have it down. The few errors that may creep in, we can live with. We will choose Black on the CN roof. More in line with other CN diesels. Have two photos that kind of hints at red and numerous others that suggests black. These were repaint locomotives so who knows if the base paint shone through? The Reading railroad used brass Bells, later repainted in green. And we will change the D&RGW units to yellow. Most were repainted to orange by the mid 1980s.
Yes we look at what other manufacturers do. My favourites are Athearn, Bowser and Rapido. And BLI for their incredible steam engines. The injection H0 units today are better detailed than brass units from 10 years ago.
Hope to have the locomotives by early Fall

What steam locomotive is coming out next? Hmmm.... Given BLI's tendencies, plus AZL's latest release of E7's, I would place my bets on something Pennsy-related, maybe the M1a. A Pacific would be a great choice though, too. I'm not a steam guy but I'll be pulling for you guys. (no pun intended)

Have you all considered making Calf units to go along with the SW1000/1500 series locomotives? It would be neat to have a selection to go along with the switchers or other yard locomotives.

Have you all considered making Calf units to go along with the SW1000/1500 series locomotives? It would be neat to have a selection to go along with the switchers or other yard locomotives. There were no production calf units built for this series, and creating one would likely involve removing valuable weight. For these reasons, I don't expect AZL would produce one. Should be easy enough to scratchbuild a "what could have been" one though, especially if you have access to 3D printing. BN scratchbuilt one themselves after an accident took out the cab on one of the BN units early on. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=210453 This one would be *really* tricky though as they leveled it off just above the battery boxes. At best you would likely have to make it a dummy.

They would be cool, but as I recall the SW-8 was the last manufactured calf model. SP had a few
Probably not an easy modeling in Z. Aside from the for mentioned weight issues, the design was cut too low to accommodate a motor in Z. But a dummy SW-8 would be an interesting addition.

Answer is maybe. Decision will not be made before we see the sales from Cab SW1000 - SW1500.

Whoa, guess AZL is (maybe) going straight up "Con-Cor" on us. I stand corrected.

Inching closer to production for sure. Preproduction samples are next. If we are lucky we have the first releases early October
