AMERICAN Z LINE January 2020 New Releases Part 2 Gunderson MAXI-I Sets – NEW TOOLING! Gunderson introduced their MAXI-I articulated cars in 1988, with the first run lasting until 1990. During that time, 270 cars were built for railroads such as the Southern Pacific , Trailer Train, Maersk and Rail-Bridge. The cars could carry two 20’ containers or a single 40’ container in their well. A larger 48’ or even 52’ continuer could be positioned on the lower container. With the high demand for interrelation carriers to move 40’ containers, the railroads revised the design. In 2000, the BNSF placed new orders for these cars. Production of these cars continues to this day. The cars feature metal chassis with etched metal details and add-on parts. The cars also feature AZL’s Auto-Latch couplers and roller bearing trucks. Containers are sold separately. The packaging includes slots for ten 40’ containers. The first release is for DTTX / Southern Pacific. Four sets are being offered: 906501-1 DTTX (TT Logo / Southern Pacific) MAXI-I Set 73145 906501-2 DTTX (TT Logo / Southern Pacific) MAXI-I Set 73153 906501-3 DTTX (TT Logo / Southern Pacific) MAXI-I Set 73147 906501-4 DTTX (TT Logo / Southern Pacific) MAXI-I Set 73150 Containers are sold separately. Look for special ten packs of containers to be released shortly. See the American Z Line sites for more information on these and other AZL products. www.azldirect.comRob Kluz Ztrack Distribution

A beloved return! Thank you, AZL :-) Not a return but an all new product! AZL's first intermodal releases was the NSC 53' well cars. We show one in the video we posted. These cars are very different as they are smaller and designed to run in sets. If you haven't seen the video, check out the link in the Knowledge Base. www.azlforum.com/thread/1551/maximizing-maxi-setsRob

A beloved return! Thank you, AZL :-) Actually this is an an All New product. The old well car we made was a 53' single car. This new release is a 5 well articulated unit with 40' wells.

Yessss!!!! Order placed here too! I am looking forward to the BNSF and TTX releases too. I really hope the BNSF Circle Logo scheme is part of the releases. I hope to end up with 3-4 TTX-derivatives and 2-3 BNSF and may end up getting a Maersk to patch as well.

That was fast! They look great, and I appreciate the Ztrack video demonstrating the operation of the car, especially showing what radii they can handle. Are the containers going to be available at a later date, or soon to follow with each car release? I'm curious if they're stateside yet. Looking forward to more paint schemes!

Somewhere in the Cascades, right after the BN/ATSF merger a newly painted Maxi-I hauls a load out of a snow shed by a lonely BN SD40-2 (also made by AZL) A few domestic 53' containers ride on top of the 40' cargo....

Are there any BN (not BNSF)MAXI's? Speaking strictly of Maxi-I's, there are some DTTX cars that had BN logos on them, similar in manner to AZL's first release with SP. Athearn did them in HO and used DTTX 73015, DTTX 73022, and <third number escapes me at the moment>. You can see evidence online of DTTX 73007 and DTTX 73014 seems like it might have been one as well. See www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=24910 . I had more info on which had BN at one point but I cannot seem to find it. Sorry I didn't drive around the US for weeks and track down 73007 myself and provide you that photo--since I was research-shamed about my failure to do that recently on this forum --but this is the best I could do on short notice. Here's the best pic I could find of one of the Athearn sets. The predecessors to the Maxi-I, the Twin-Stacks, (the cars with bulkheads) did have some painted BN green, and also similarly painted DTTX cars.
