With the upcoming release of the California Zephyr I have a couple of questions:
For the WP locos, will they have the steam boiler exhaust on the roof? Will they be available in the prototypical A-B-B set? I'm guessing if not it's way too late to change anything.
More importantly, should we be talking reservations?

Same question for me about the WP ABB set! And what about F3 D&RGW in bumble bee paint?
And last, about the CZ passenger cars, how many different sets will you be releasing? Any plan for individual cars later on?
Thanks! Charlie

No reservations yet. The sets will consist of 11 cars as it did in the early 50s. We will make 4 complete sets out of the original 6. The only add on car is the PRR 10-6 Sleeper Silver Rapids that was attached to the CZ consist in Chicago. All F3s locomotive consists are prototypical as well.

Hans...will we be able to buy just single locos? I am happy you are offering the prototypical sets but would be interested in buying separately as well. Also, will the 4 complete sets be offered all at once or over time? From the reading I have been doing, it seems that the consists were somewhat specific to each railroad. Will you be offering them that way and let us know ahead of time of each car in each consist?

Dave, The railroad contributions to the CZ were based on the run mileage for each road and generally for each train the roster was split between the roads. A good discussion is at: cs.trains.com/ctr/f/3/t/40619.aspxIt would be interesting to know which cars are in the various sets, but not particularly relevant. Mark

Mark I think the expectations are high, and the A-B-B a given if you look at the pictures. www.american-rails.com/california-zephyr.htmland streamlinermemories.info/?p=1103Best, Sven

AZL does keep setting the standards higher with each new release. The F3s for the WP does get a bit complicated. The units were purchased as A-B-B-A sets but run as A-B-B so several different sets are reasonable. I'm also thinking about bashing a steam generator car (just before the baggage in the American rails image), but only if I need it. Mark

Think about the Zephyr as a one time release. The F3s will be sold as follows: D&RGW F3A 5521 and F3B 5522, AZL 62915-1 D&RGW F3A 5524 and F3B 5523, AZL 62915-2 WP F3A 801A and F3B 801B, AZL 62916-1 WP F3B 802B, AZL 62916-2 CB&Q F3A 9960A and F3B 9960B, AZL 62917-1 CB&Q F3A 9960C, AZL 62917-2 There could be changes like a single WP F3A offered as well. And we did make the D&RGW PA/PB in brass way back

As I am a "static" collector and not a rail modeller, out of curiosity: what happens if three AZL locomotives are put in lead of a convoy? I see WP typical consist for the Zephyr was F3ABB. I mean: as the three locos are all powered, will there be any impact on the overall train speed?

Speed will roughly be the same. 11 passenger cars is no match for a single AZL F3. And all locomotives are powered.

Hans....two questions.
1. You mentioned the Zephyr is a one time release; how limited of runs are these for both the locos and cars? 2. Will all four 11 car sets be released at the same time?

Hans, I want to know, as well...
I'd like sets of the locomotives without having to purchase duplicates of passenger cars. If all the cars have different, individual names ...then I do want all of them.
Thanks Rory

We will revisit all the details when we get closer to releasing this exciting run. That includes the details about the different sets. Also, locomotives will be sold separate of passenger car sets. I think we are planning around 400 sets and 75 of each CZ locomotive, but this may change. Will everything be released at once? No decision yet, but probably in 3 batches.

Does this mean, since the zephyr is coming out that we can get The Canadian done too soon? Gotta love budd cars...

... And we did make the D&RGW PA/PB in brass way back I missed this line before! Does this mean you plan for more runs? If yes, is there any chance, when things get better, to see them in injection as well? like the F3s runs, that was perfect! There was enough for everyone! Charlie
