Hello everybody, including Santa . Can I hope that AZL will ever manufacture "vintage" NH locos (other than Budd's) ? I remember that the first F version Märklin sold in HO in the 60's (!) existed in two versions : ATSF and New-Haven, and this one looked fine !

Thanks, but : 1) This GP9 already generated its own topic ; conclusion : too expensive for an used loco that needs total service ! 2) I gave up the idea of MTL locos : I read that the contact springs to the motor are very difficult to unmount and that these spare parts (if they "fly away" : Murphy ... ) are not easy to find ! These locos seem to be in an "end of life" phase.

I indeed once serviced one of my MTL Geeps and I agree, I found dealing with these small springs rather tricky. I now plan to perform "simplified" servicing on my MTL hood units, simply opening truck sections, cleaning axles and copper contacts, then setting them back in place and lubing gearings. But nothing up towards the chassis.

If you want to play with them, you are better of to buy the skins at eg Anthony‘s Z scale Monster for $32 and use your favorite GP7 chassis from AZL. Best, Sven

It would seem that Rob(A) has given us a very heavily wrapped Christmas present. NH never ran any of the locomotives that are in the current AZL roster (AZL has previously announced the GP7/9 as being retired). So it would seem that this qualifies as a new product announcement. So what will it be? FA/B? PA/B? U25B? SW1200? RDC3? Should we play 20 questions? Mark

GP7/9 retired ? "Previously announced" : Where and when ? And : what GP's for friends of "vintage" ? The 50's/early 60's were the golden age of railroads ! And : are there other retirements planned ?

I didn't find the original post but this one comes with an explanation: www.azlforum.com/thread/773/gp-38s-second-roundOne needs to read all the AZL posts as Rob(A) and Hans drop little pearls in them. I suppose that the implication could be that AZL will reintroduce the GP7/9, but there have been many requests for all the models I suggested. Mark

Does the MTL shell fit "1 to 1" onto the AZL chassis ?

MTL And AZL GP7/9 are all retired . That's why I have spare New MTL GP's. So if one ever wears out. I just would swap shells and a new engine. Knock on wood I've have yet to do that. I have been running them for few years with just basic clean and oil.

I don't know how you define "retired" when an AZL dealer such as Zscalemonster has every road name and number ever produced by AZL available? Best, Sven

You can still get brand new MTL GP9s. I know hobby shops have them with Oregon air.

Mark I agree Mark, that they will change the supplier but not that they (AZL) have given up on GP7/9: Nov 21, 2016 9:04:40 GMT 1 Hans Riddervold (AZL) said: That is correct. No more GP7s and GP9s in their present plastic. We have unresolved issues with a former supplier and they are sitting on the molds. We rather produce a new GP chassis in the future than to pursue the old molds on unfavourable and not particularly ethical terms.
