Well here I go again about these passenger cars. Rob, I have been conducting extensive research into the change over of the paint scheme of CN's passenger cars of the sleepers, diners, and parlor cars, and although my initial enquiries to Canadian National yielded no results due to lost or destroyed records and photos when Via took over passenger service, they did refer me to a few other sources from which I was able to gather the information I was looking for in reference to the above and this is what I was able to find out.
1. As I mentioned above, some of the 36 seat diners were repainted from the green/black to the white/black with red wet noodle CN. 2. The 10-1-2, 8-1-2, and 12-1 sleepers were all repainted. That is all that were kept. As with the diners, many were scrapped, converted to MOW cars, converted to other style sleepers, sold to private interests or museums or other railways, or used for other purposes. 3. The 28-1 Parlor cars were also repainted, although not many. Some were re-configured to 30-1 and 34-1 parlor cars, especially for use on the Toronto to Montreal and Toronto to Windsor runs.
I went back through that list of cars in the link I sent you and after checking out the examples of just the Canadian National HW Sleepers, I was able to find pictures of those mentioned above but you really have to look for them because you can't tell from the car number or the name, which are the green/black and which are the black/white. But they are there. I couldn't find any pictures of the 28-1 parlor cars, but I'm told that they were repainted by CN and were operated by Via when they took over the service. I hope this is of some help when it comes time to continue the run of CN wet noodle passenger cars. When I can find the time, I will investigate the Canadian Pacific cars as well if for nothing more then for continuity sake.
Cheers

Much appreciated. When I witnessed the Big Boy move last week I talked to a gentleman that happened to have done the lettering on CN passenger cars in the 50s and 60s. He mentioned that originally, all CN heavyweight cars were green. I will definitely follow up with him. Sincerely, Hans

That's great Hans. If you think it's important you might mention that I tried to get info from CN but all records, etc. were lost or destroyed during the transfer of ownership of passenger service. The info I provided above came from other sources provided to me by CN. A couple were major railroad museums here in Canada.
On another note, Rob A said something a few messages ago about certain cars that CN had in both colour schemes that you guys couldn't be produced because of roof structures and tooling. To that end, and in going through the link I sent him, there might be a few HW cars that AZL haven't thought of producing because of these criteria. I was looking at a few, and I wonder if a couple might fit as far as roof structure is concerned? Perhaps get the link from the thread above and check it out yourself.
Here's something else to consider, I see MTL has put out an express refrigeration box car in the Canadian Pacific burgundy colours to match your CP baggage car. Why not do the same for the CN passenger cars in both colour schemes? You could even add a through baggage box car in the same colours. It's the identical car just with different lettering and door. Just something to consider as part of my wish list.

:)I would like to add my positive comments to those made by others here. We may have the rivet counters, and those impatient with slow delivery dates, however, who besides AZL have delivered so much to the z scale community over the past couple of years? All of the heavy weight passengers, the gp 38's, and the mikados, leaving out a few others, have been brought to us by just 2 very devoted and enterprising guys! I own 3 different mikados, and will be purchasing more of them, and many of the heavyweights (mainly eastern).
Rob or Hans: is there any chance we will see Southern Crescent heavyweights any time? I would love to pull some of those with my mikado or the new Aspen PS-4.

I think I can give you a very long winded, laborious, verbose, tedious answer to that question: YES!!! Best, -Rob(A) And we THANK YOU for your support! Lots of new product are in the pipeline.

Well after much research I have found that Canadian Pacific did not have the variety of Heavyweight passenger cars that Canadian National did in as far as those produced by AZL. The only cars I could find any information on at all were the 36 seat Diner, the parlor car, the 8-1-2 and the 12-1-2- sleeper, and the business cars which AZL says they are going to be producing later in 2014. Beyond that, I found nothing else except the 8-4 Duplex, Roomette, DBR Sect cars. Of course these are in the Burgandy colours. There are also the RPO's and Express Mail cars as well, but aside from the RPO, I don't think AZL has any plans to produce any others. That's a shame. Of course all of these became the property of Via when they took over passenger service from both Canadian lines.

I'm really hoping the Heavyweights will make a re-appearance soon. I'm anxious to see if the boys at AZL took advantage of my extensive research on the sleepers, diners, and parlor cars both for CN and CP. I'm eager to get a complete set of the CP burgundy and the CN B/W with red wet noodle to go with the baggage cars already produced. 6 months is almost up.

Mark I came across this photo today. You mentioned wanting Daylight Heavyweights and questioned if they ever existed. Apparently at least an observation car was painted in Daylight colors. Check out this photo. There is a lot of eye candy in it! www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=484563&nseq=6Rob

Rob, Welcome back. Great find. Interestingly, I haven't been able to find a written reference to this car, but still working on it. Actually starting to think it was a business car that was hidden away somewhere. The paint is in too good a condition (as compared to the Daylight cars in Asti, CA on an abandon NWP track) to have been weathering very long.

The next release of HW cars is now in transit from the factory to Ztrack offices. Expect an announcement in the next week or so!

I don't mean to change the subject but I have purchased quite a few AZL heavyweight passenger cars (mostly SP) and have read that the door diaphragms will extend out. To give you an idea of my situation I have to wear XL gloves or larger (my hands and fingers are big but I am truly intrigued with Z-scale) so I have been unable to extend them for the fear that I will break something. Can anyone give me advice on how to gently pull them out and how far I should expect them to extend?
