For planning purposes, are you willing to tell us the first couple few road names??? Hi Dave, I do not know the release calendar yet but the production road names are: NYC, B&O, CN (Maple Leaf), CN (Noodle), Amtrak, CP (Beaver), B&M (without the "T" logo), CNJ, ATSF (2nd run), Trinity Texas, Reading, CNW, VIA, and SP (2nd run) All are RDC-1 since the RDC-2 tooling is stuck at the old factory. One day we might do an RDC-3. Best, -Rob(A) AZL If you do "do an RDC-3", count me in! GN 2350

Lets hear your thoughts on DCC. How many of your Loco's have Decoders in them.? Why do you stay with DC.? Why did you switch to DCC.? What DCC system are you using.? NCE, Digitrax, ESU, MRC, ? And why did you choose the system you did?
How many...? "About half". ;-) I figure I have about two dozen locos overall. About half of them are MTL F7s or AZL F59PHIs, both of which require hard-wired- rather than drop-in decoders. I haven't taken that risk yet. Come to think of it, I do have one F7 and a custom-switcher each with DCC, but I bought both from someone who had the installations done. But, generally, if it's drop-in capable, I generally do so. (I'm not the best at detail work, so if I can handle the drop-in process, it's do-able by others.) Why do I stay with DC? See above: hard-wiring is above my pay-grade/skill-level/comfort-level. Why did I switch to DCC? Where I did switch, slow-speed operation, precise speed control (so I can run multiple trains on the same track-loop, and accelerate or slow a given train via the throttle rather than holding back the speedster with my finger. ;-) What system...? NCE PowerCab. Why the system I selected? I followed the crowd. ;-) Lots of others use NCE, too. But I also like the way it works, ease-of-use. Mike

The trouble with a GN RDC would be that GN 2350 - their only RDC ever - was an RDC3. www.rr-fallenflags.org/gn/gn-r2350dsa.jpg Lots of differences (changes) from an RDC-1. And for AZL's purposes, a limited market, as there would only be one road number. All that said, I'd be perfectly happy if a GN was brought out. :-)

A quick update on the SD45 project: Production samples are on their way to Hans and me for review. This means that production is nearly complete at the factory and we should be on-track for a late January release. The locomotives will be available on AZLDirect.com for $195 each (USPS Priority Mail shipping is included) or from your preferred dealer. Our first road name is Great Northern. A photo from the factory is attached. Merry Christmas! -Rob(A) View Attachment"Merry Christmas" doesn't cover it! SD45 in GN's (simplified) Empire Builder scheme? Rob, AZL's immediate job is to send someone to my house to wipe the smile off my face! Mike

I tell you what, I'll take a bunch of pictures and email them to you since I can't post them on here due to copyright problems. Then you can post them for me. Will that be OK? This sounds odd - what are the "copyright problems" Confused, -Rob(A) (With my professional hat on...) Canadian Copyright Law is different (and rather disappointingly labor-intensive in one interlibrary-loan-specific instance), and may differ in some odd way. But I will let boxcarwilly explain, as I'm not sure what he has in mind. Signed, Mike (the librarian)

Another question about DCC-ing the F3s: Is there a way to use only one decoder for 2units (or more) by plugging them together? :s Because I have F3 ABBA set I want to upgrade to DCC.... and buying 4 decoders makes it quite expensive! The more typical practice is to set up a consist. To do that, the expensive part is that each loco in the consist needs a decoder. But the consist setup means you run the group of locos as a set, with a single group address. Not what your wallet wants to hear, I know. Mike

Dom, hook up the two wires to your layout, and you are done. Why does everybody think wiring dcc is complex. Its basically cut up a small square in your layout for the pcp (Power cab control panel I wire one of the wires to the CP6 for short protection, and the other to the track. Hook up the flat wire that comes with the power cab to the right slot. The Power cab comes with a coil wire that is used for a second cab and its hook up to the left slot. plug in the wall wart into the pcp, and power it up. That's all you have to do. Complexity, John! We demand complexity! ;-)

Well guys just think the longer it takes to get part 1 of October the closer we get to part 2 haha still checking every 30 mins if only azl got paid for every time we hit the refresh button I don't imagine AZL would take that kind of advantage, but there are companies that just might! Don't give anyone ideas! ;-)

Yes, we will eventually offer undecorated F units. First out are the F3A&F3B sets. Railroads: ATSF, SP Black Widow, B&O, GN, NYC, PRR Brunswick Green, D&RGW black&yellow, CN, Southern and UP. At one point we will offer early F7s, but at the moment no F9s are planned. As with the E units, we hope to have the first deliveries later this year. Sincerely, Hans (AZL) The "GN" part is all I need to hear! :-)

I received a pair of GN Mikados late last week, just in time for a GTE show. The one I used ran fine, the other has yet to leave the jewel case. I'll even confess to running it through the 195mm radius turn on my layout, instead of the 220mm recommended minimum - it balked a little bit, but it made it.
As to the DCC, I would like to see such an article. I've fumbled my way through some "drop-in" installations, but a good article on the subject would help.

Mark, [massive, wholesale, wild snippage] That does NOT mean we are going to make all of these! Just those are the ones under consideration. What do you like? Not Like? Best, -Rob(A) AZL Easier for me to say, keep GN, skip the rest, than to list all the rest. Distant econd choice would be Northern Pacific. (Okay, so I don't follow directions!) MKS

It's an English opera (Gilbert & Sullivan), set in Japan, Kelley (boxcarwilly). When "Mikado" is mentioned in a train context, I have to remind myself "not the opera!". But when I hear the opera's title, I have to think "not the train!". Stranger, the nickname for the trains is "Mike" - which is my name. It's all so confusing! ;-)
That said, I am looking forward to the Mikado release, especially if GN goats will adorn the cabs...

RobA, you're a man after my own heart if you come up with a sleeper with Roger Thornhill and Eve Kendall in a compartment!
