I've used some of his Buckeye trucks under stonysmiths Torpedo car and they look good and work very well with MTL wheels.

Our Brooklyn, the youngest member of the tribe, has wanted to play with Shasta for a while now but to be honest the risk was probably a bit too much. His birthday was approaching and I was musing on building him a 00 scale layout when a listing on ebay caught my eye. A complete z layout with two locos, controller, numerous Kibri buildings and also a full box of new Peco flexitrack which at the time was standing with a very low opening bid. It was buyer collect from a town called Cleator Moor about six miles from work so I put in a maximum bid and to be honest sort of forgot about it. A few days later and I had got it for the equivalent of about $75! Collecting it the following day the scenery was faded and it was a bit mucky but other than that it was fine, also as a bonus was a Relco track cleaner built in to it. I threw myself in to tarting it up as the boys birthday approached and a couple of days before had it sussed and running well The controller supplied was one of the old blue ones with the direction switch so I subbed one of the later ones with a separate power supply mounted on one end One happy little lad!

SD9s, FP40H, 0-8-0 Switcher and USRA 0-6-0 (you can tell I model more than era!) and most importantly for me an NKP Berskshire (which can also be in W&LE and Pere marquette)

The vehicles Patrice refers to are done by a guy called Laszlo in Hungary and come ready finished and painted. He trades as Csikape on EBAY but only during the winter months I believe. His list of Autos is very impressive both European and American and I always have slightly mixed emotions about publicising him because I'm going to end up bidding against the people I've told about him! Got to love classic American 'lead sleds'I'm also going to try some of 'ex libris' designs on shapeways who has some very interesting French cars and vans Still love Randy Browns trucks and vans and miss Tom Phalen's stuff which seems to have disappeared off the scene

Hi Kev, where did you got the UK rolling stock from? Any chance you can provide me a resource? Thanks in advance! Philipp Hi Philipp I've been running a thread on a U.k forum about British Z modelling www.modelrailforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37834I've just ordered three USRA 0-6-0T 3D printed bodies and another Class 86 electric from Shapeways. More interestingly Stonysmith is looking at doing 3D printed 16 ton mineral wagons, 21 ton iron ore tipplers and HAA MGR Coal wagons for me Kev

Hi Folks. I don't tend to get involved in new release discussions as I'm just happy that Z has grown to the stage where you can actually get a variety of things but..... When it comes to GP30s surely you'll have to do the Nickel Plate ones at some stage? I would use at least three or four on Cuyahoga Kev

Hi Folks Well the nights are drawing in and the days of chasing and filming Main line steam and Class 37 hauled pasenger trains are drawing to a close for another year but as usual I'll be out and about with the layouts back end of this year. Anybody over in England at the time are welcome to come and have a chat at the following shows Blackburn 3rd-4th September Shasta (long form) Bradford 10th October Republic Steel Zedex 16th October Republic Steel Hartlepool 23rd –24th October Cuyahoga Shoeburyness 9th-10th November Shasta Manchester 3/4th December Shasta (long Form) Highlight of the year will be Zedex of course with over 20 Z and Nm layouts expected plus trade stands and a great community feel from everybody involved. Republic Steel will probably be shown in 'Railblue' i.e British Railways 1970-80s form And yes I do know the cars are on the wrong side of the road for England! Cuyahoga will be out in full Nickel Plate Road form Shasta in long form will be running 12 foot long freights with my new SD70 Ace taking pride of place As you can see I have three weekends out on the bounce in October . This will involve a lot of going to the pub with the rest of the lads, in whichever town the show is in, but that it is the sort of sacrifice you reluctantly have to make! I'll post reports as I go along Once winter hits I'm concentrating on connecting Republic Steel to the right hand end of Cuyahoga and then starting to add some Hullett iron ore unloaders to the dock area, making a start on Tapton Junction the new British layout and also making a 'different' Japanese Z layout. God knows where I'm going to put it all! Cheers Kev

Interesting story for me. The ultimate impulse buy Back in the late 1980s I used to have two large gauge 1 exhibition layouts, one of which was called Mardy Colliery and featured a gauge 1 coal mine and associated yards. It featured a ferociously steep climb out of the fiddle yard on a tight curve. I went to a very strange swap meet (what you in the states would call a toy fair) held in the Museum of Army transport in a town called Beverley in North Humberside with no thoughts of spending any money at all To give you an idea of what a strange venue it was her is what was stood being one of the stands On one of the stands was a Marklin starter set with the 6 wheel diesel shunter in it for £45. I know, I'll hide the fiddle yard with a model engineer club using Z and gauge 1 figures. Sold! When Mardy was sold I kept 'Mardy Model Engineers' as it could work as a stand alone layout in its own right and it eventually was refined and detailed and ended up doing over 40 shows in one form another I had no plans to do anything else in Z but have ended up building seven exhibition layouts with four being sold on to carry on being shown on the show circuit by their new owners. It is addictive is Z! I would never have anticipated ending up building layouts like Shasta back in them days (or spending so much money!) but to be honest I love it and I love the surprise of the general public at a show when they see a z gauge layout properly for the first time. At a couple of shows Shasta and Cuyahoga have won the 'best running layout at the show' trophy and I was asked recently by a very experienced railway modeller in the U.K who had just watched a couple of 12 foot long freight trains go past him at a scale 20 M.P.H "How do you get them to run that smoothly and slowly?" "Simple" I replied "I just turn the controller up" Kev

Part one is here and is the start of the mega shunt required to get every exhibit lined up. More in part 2 coming soon and we had earned a beer after this lot!
