Rob: what is up with the wipers (metal strips in the wheels/trucks) on the Amfleets? See photo Viewliner at top, Amfleet at bottom. View AttachmentWe added those as a part of one of the re-designs of the truck. They are the contact point on the axel and reduce drag by a factor of 3 compared to just plastic. Frank from your picture it looks like The Viewliner Wheel sets are held in place and spin on the needle point on the outside of the wheel set The Amfleete are held in place and rotate in the "Wipers" between the wheel set. My guess is that the thin brass "wiper" as you call it would have less drag on the axle than a plastic bearing of sorts would be. Correct. The AmFleets have the wipers. It was the best solution for the inside bearing trucks. The Viewliner trucks are traditional needle point axels, which roll very well. can you possibly use the wipers for lighting? Yes you can! It is an unintended bonus of the design, but we have no plans to make lighting kits of our own. The hard part (getting electrical contact from the wheels) is done. Enjoy! -Rob(A) AZL

I had a chance to run a number of these cars tonight. I had one car where the truck was too tight. Just like Frank mentioned, I loosened the screw 1/4 turn. This is all it took. After that, the truck rotated freely and the car ran great. Boy these cars looked great behind a P42!

I love my new Superliner set and have an extra sleeper to boot. But at the Del Mar show, some visitor came up and told me it was all incorrect since I didn't have a baggage car following the loco. I don't see a baggage car on offering. What can I use to play Amtrak baggage car? That comment is not going to put a damper on my fun, though. Here's a shot from Amtrak's in-train brochure from the Coast Starlight. No baggage car in the shot, somewhere near Gaviota Bridge, I think. Attachments:

Depending on what train you are modeling, they don't always have baggage cars. So your visitor needs to get his facts straight. They are great models, glad you're having fun with them.
