Has anyone here run DCC with Rasberry Pi or SPROG? Please share your experiences with these .
I am thinking to get one of these instead of those big name DCC system.
Thanks!

search the web for DCC++
TrainBoard has several topics on DCC++ under the DCC forum. (http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?forums/dcc-electronics.114/)

Tim, Welcome to the forum.
I played with an Arduino doing DCC a while back. It was interesting to learn about the nuts and bolts of DCC, but as I added up the costs of materials and my time writing code, I felt that I was at the cost of a commercial throttle. There ready are a large variety of DCC throttles: a 3 loco unit that Ztrack was importing, various "knob" throttles, digital handheld, wireless and even DCC through your phone (there's an app for that).
I feel the microcontroller-based DCC is better suited for stationary operation in situations where one would need a significant number of commercial products, decoders, detectors, drivers or programmable units, to produce results.
That, following the suggestions from Jeff, the open source options are better than wen I was working with the Arduino and it looks like if you duplicate some of the examples you should get a working throttle.
