Interesting, Mark, take some pictures please which we can use as a background We see something like this as well here in Southern Spain (Andalusia); Our baby dog in a sea of yellow flowers! Best, Sven - but other than for the color, flowers are no real problem in Z

The first image is much like we see (saw) here. Since I'm travelling today, I'll see what I can do to get photos. Unfortunately land use has changed over the years here are the hills just aren't the same as the 1950s.

What do you think? Best, Sven Hi Sven, That is another nice exibition layout plan to watch trains when ready! I would connect the staging yard with a Y to the layout. It will give you also the possibility to change direction of the locomotives for trains in the station area. /Frank

Hi Sven, That is another nice exibition layout plan to watch trains when ready! I would connect the staging yard with a Y to the layout. It will give you also the possibility to change direction of the locomotives for trains in the station area. /Frank I am not fully sure I understand you correctly, Frank, We have two (shadow - under the mountain) reverse-loops, by which we can change the direction of even long trains. On the right side (again under the mountain line) is a connection to the roundhouse with its yard. This will be a separate module and should may be serve as a functional diorama on its own. We have called this module "Mission Bay Garden". The actual planning looks like this; However, since given the size of AZL big steam engines (GS3/4, challenger, big boy), we have to scratch build the turntable. This may affect the track angles as well (away from the 15 degrees of the Maerklin/Rokuhan geometry towards 7-8 degrees?) and may impact the size of the layout a little bit (up to 150 cm). In the meanwhile, it would be great if we could gather as much information about this very famous roundhouse dedicated to the daylight engines. Please help us with links or pictures or, or, or........ Thank you! All the best, Sven

A little bit more information about the prototype; in 1938 the area map dated as of 1954

Sven, The 1954 map date is a bit suspect as it's showing post-54 landmarks. But as near as I can tell the track work is basically accurate.
Have you checked out the Southern Pacific Historical and Technical Society (sphts.org). They've documented everything SP. Unfortunately they don't have a lot online. I can recommend their Winter 2015 "Trainline" article: Mission Bay Memories (c1955). PM me for details.
