Very nicely done. A couple of additional thoughts for showing these cars. The Lark was also a mail train and as such it would typically have more head-end mail storage, not necessary in Lark grey, but in Daylight and Pullman two-tone grey. Technically, what you've modelled is the San Francisco Lark. There was also an Oakland Lark that would be a baggage car, a couple of coaches and a sleeper, split from the main train in San Jose, routed through Niles. It was pulled by a GP9 in the later half of the 1950s. I'm not sure what was used for steam power prior to 1955.

Mark Thank you, Mark, I tried to translate your comment about the Oakland Lark into some pictures; What do you think? The steam power would be interesting. May be even a Cab Forward? Best, Sven

Once again, nicely done. The gallery cars could use some road numbers, SP3700 series. You might want to add some window shades. The cars didn't have AC (or it never worked!) so shades were important in the summer: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3212631I have to disagree about color being gone. From my vantage point in San Mateo, the "black widow" F7s and GPs were pulling these cars. A few years and a few miles south, I'd watch them being pulled by "bloody nose" GPs. BTW: if you haven't visited wx4.org of late, it's been updated with more info of the traffic at Niles tower, including images from Altamont Pass of trains that would have to pass through Niles. Mark

Is there somewhere an available trackplan for this layout ? Dom Hi Dom, Here you go: (drawing by Dirk Kuhlmann)
This small piece is part of my run-in cycle. The non-layout part is a simple cycle made of Rokuhan track, while on the layout we used standard Märklin track. I found it more comfortable this way to watch the locos running by again and again........... And this way (see below) it is even accepted in the living room Best, Sven

Ooopss... Sorry, must have been still a little asleep when writing this, as I was in the wrong post. My question was about the layout "West of Caliente" in Altenbenken 2018 post. So please disregard it, and thanks for your reply anyway. Dom

But you can always take a look at it in our Club rooms. www.fde-burscheid.de/index.phpYou are warmheartedly invited. Best, Sven

Sven, My receipt of MTLs daylight painted cars has given me a thought for a visitor to Niles Junction: the San Francisco Overland. Then I was greeted by the latest SP Trainline issue with an extensive story. It was the first long distance train I had ridden. The unique thing about the train was typically no two cars on the train were the same. C&NW heavyweight, chair and sleeper and sometimes diner. UP heavyweight and lightweight chair and sleepers and heavyweight diner and lounge. SP heavyweight and lightweight Sleeper and chair, second diner in various combinations of Daylight, aluminum and olive green. Finally there could be a PRR sleeper (6-3 Tuscan red) or a NYC TTG. All pulled by PAs. It would be a visitor Niles that would turn heads. Mark Hi Mark, I started working on this project but I need your help on the details. espee.railfan.net/overland.html When running through Niles SP would be in charge running the train, correct? ALCO PAs are fine with me, Gerd has made some in other colors as well if you prefer. A-B-A necessary? Now to the head end. What do we need exactly here?
