Good evening...I was just wondering how many of you run any Marklin locos (steam and/or diesel) or rolling stock. I haven't seen many people mention Marklin on this forum so I though I would ask. I bought the 88075 Commodore Vanderbilt steamer; haven't run it yet. If you have any photos or videos running, that would be great. Attachments:

I run locos and rolling stock from all of the manufacturers. Maybe the reason you haven't seen much mention of the other manufacturers is because this is the AZL forum. I know that AZL doesn't mind if we mention other manufacturers but there are plenty of other forums for that. I started with Marklin in 1972 when it was introduced in the states. I still run Marklin F-7s, Pacifics, Mikados, tank cars, passenger cars and cabeese. I also run some of their European prototype trains. I've got the Commodore Vanderbilt and run repainted, lighted Marklin European passenger cars behind it.

The majority of my collection is Marklin. Probably a couple dozen engines or so. Need to take inventory again. My Crown Jewels are the complete set of the Orient Express and Santa Fe Blue Warbonnet A & B unit. Other F7's include B&O, PRR, Chessie $ Southern Pacific.
It wasn't till this year that I discovered AZL. Now I'm addicted.

Funny you should ask. The AZL principles do have a bit of experience with Märklin (See Model Railroader 12/2007 page 61), but agree with Thom that there are other sites where Märklineers tend to go. What with Märklin focusing more on the European market the U.S. interest has dropped off.
As for myself I started in Z with their first American mini-club set. I like to bring out the California Zephyr and Super Chief sets out at Christmas. Due to the coupler differences, it's hard to mix and match. I also run a Mikado and a couple of freight cars converted over to knuckle couplers using the Zelatory conversion kits. And I've been thinking about converting some daylight passenger cars.

I have some Marklin locos and rolling stock. Like others, it's what got me started in Z. I like to model the U.S. and Marklin keys more on the Euro market. It's difficult to find much in NS and CSX. For me, my AZL locos blow the Marklins out of the water. The AZL's are much smoother, less finicky runners, with a modern set-up. The AZL U.S. rolling stock is much more diverse and more realistic.

I also have Marklins 88075 Commodore Vanderbilt steamer and run it at shows from time to time. Its a dependable well running steamer

Thanks for posting your photos of the Commodore Vanderbilt. Any idea how difficult it is to replace the Marklin coupler with a MTL coupler?

It's been a long time since I've done it. The coupler box has a metal bottom that attaches to the box using hot melt pins. Use a chisel blade to scrap off the melt. Try not to damage the plastic pin as you'll want them for alignment and support for reassembly. Remove the plate, remove the coupler and install the MTL coupler. Replace the plate and a bit of CA at the pin to hold it in place. Have I missed anything? I don't remember the coupler number I used.
Another alternative would be to build or buy a transition car: MTL one end, Märklin the other. A rail express car would be appropriate leading either a passenger or freight train.
These days I prefer replacing the trucks, either by using the Zealatory parts I mentioned (which probably won't work on the Commodore), or creating a new bolster hole.

I think they are 902s but I could be wrong... I have a set laying around as I was going to use them for a GP38 pilot mount conversion, but using the regular boxes was easier...
