And just to let our Forum guest know, the next Heritage units to be released are: NS - Reading NS - Savannah and Atlanta UP - C&NW (in that order)

Hans, does that mean if you fill up the 40 UP Heritage subscriptions, there are only going to be 10 locos per release (30 for SP) left for dealers? Sounds like a shortage already for those of us that don't want, or can't afford $1500 of locos.

As we have gone through our inventory we realise that we will not be able to offer more than 25 NS Heritage subscription "sets". We also have to decrease the UP Heritage subscription sets to 40. Sorry about that, but that was what we received from our factory. Just for sets of SD70ACe's?

Just a note to say that these AZL offerings across the past several years are truly spectacular. If I hadn't been collecting MTL equipment since 1988 - seven of the growler UP F7A and two B units(powered by older PRR F7A motors-I've kept the PRR shells and unpowered UP chassis, a GP9 and another GP35, I'd be all over the modern equipment AZL is offering. I've added all the AZL GP7s and three of the GP30s in UP, so I'm all set with what I have for rolling stock for the period. By the way, I never even remove the MTL UP cabooses I have from their boxes any more that I've been fortunate to add three AZL UP cabooses.
I probably should get in touch with Rob to sell most of the older MTL UP units and part of my rolling stock collection to free up some cash for AZLs new UP F3s and E8/9 units.
Thank you, AZL, for your continued offerings and your fantastic support for Z scale. I fear the scale would be dying without your wonderful additions. Now, if I could afford at least one Challenger and one Big Boy, I would be most happy.

I totally agree with tinytrainer in the above comments....I have been modeling N-scale since the early 1990's when KATO produced some quality E-8 train passenger sets.....about three years ago, I tried some z-scale passenger cars and a UP locomotive from Micro-Trains......and I was very disappointed....my idea was to shrink my layout due to advancing age into a smaller layout.....but the products from Micro-Trains just didn't measure up.....about a year ago I tried AZL and the Missouri Pacific E-8 locomotives and what a pleasant surprise.....I have obtained Rokuhan track and am building a small layout and am hoping that AZL will produce smoothside passenger cars for the COLORADO EAGLE and my MP locomotives......I have also two IC E-8 locomotives, two ATSF E-8 locomotives for future passenger trains (hopefully) from AZL, and AZL only....great products from AZL.....keep it coming and stick with quality......Herb

Hans, now that the BNSF SD70ACes are all sold out everywhere, can you tell us how limited these and the future runs of SD70ACes are? It appears that all of the SD70ACes are much more limited than the other recent locos (SD45s, F3s, etc.). Thanks for the help.

The good news is that we have another batch of BNSF SD70ACe coming in September/October. It is a slightly newer version with safety cab. We probably ordered too few BNSFs, but should be well stocked with other roadnames like CSX, NS and UP. But planning quantities in Z is as always a challenge. The main difference is that N and H0 manufacturers produce quantities based on dealer orders. AZL really does not have any feedback from the market or dealers what the correct production quantity should be. Luckily we have far more hits than misses.

I was unable to order before they disappeared. I would have purchased both this version AND the later safety cab in BNSF. If AZL is going to play the limited release game, then I will LIMIT my purchases to only want I absolutely need.

Yeah, they certainly are conditioning us to NOT buy as much of the ancillary items so that there are always funds available for the key items like this. Not remotely expecting BNSF as the first run, I had just paid down a bill from some dental work I had, and thus had no extra funds available to buy what is arguably a signature locomotive for me. And I believe the later cab is too new for my era. I was still gonna try and make it work but they sold out before I could even really react. Bummer.

There are more BNSF SD70ACe units on their way. I expect re-supply will be available at dealers in two weeks.
If you would like one, please contact your dealer and make your request, or send rob kluz an email to reserve one from AZLDirect.
Here is a video made this weekend when the DC Z-Bend Track group showed at the spring Timmonium show. Lots of SD70ACe power at work:

I totally agree with tinytrainer in the above comments.... +1. I love my AZL GP-38s and SD70s, especially the Santa Fe's. I was marveling at operating them on my small layout the other night, with a Digitrax Zephyr. Just too cool, to watch a freight lead by a Santa Fe loco, passing a CSX GP-38, doing switching ops on a parallel track, with the little wheels clicking on the track. They even run smoothly on my "re-worked" Micro Trains track. The Heritage locos are going to look fantastic! I'm so glad to see AZL doing both UP and NS heritage. A super cool commemoration by AZL of a proper commemoration of historical RR's by UP and NS. Never forget our heritage. I'll be able to run modern gear, while saluting some famous fallen flags. Keep pushing the Z scale envelope, AZL!
