Has anyone had success cutting off the AZL coupler from an AZL locomotive and replacing it with an MTL magnetic coupler? If so, can you describe the process?

Hi, I did try once on a GP7 to do so. I kept the "body" of the AZL coupler and removed all moving parts inside. I then reworked this body with micro driller etc following the same shape as a MTL coupler. Afterwards I installed the "inside" parts of the MTL coupler. It looks fine to me now, it works "kind of" pretty well but I don't think this is the best solution as it is hard to get the correct height for the coupler and it is not as smooth as a normal coupler...but well... give it a try!

Speaking of shortening MTL coupler boxes, what's the best in your opinion, Frank? Filing, or cutting (in this last case, using a cutter, or a dremel?)?

Hi Dom,
I did use a sharp hobby knife (alike X-acto). But I also did assemble my couplers myself.
