Well after a long wait I see AZL finally released the Canadian National F3 A and B units. Nice looking machines but there is a very huge inaccuracy. Where is the lettering and numbering on the B Unit? Since they were never run in matched sets, each B unit had it's own number. I'm disappointed in AZL who boasts of making it's product as close to prototypical as possible, to forget or omit a detail as noticeable as this. Shame, shame! One more thing, these units in this livery, were exclusive to freight haulage only. They were intended to be used in place of steam locos which were being phased out. These units never saw passenger service. I do hope, that if and when AZL ever releases the passenger version of the F3 (same colours as the heavyweight passenger cars of the green and black with gold/yellow accents), it will be correct and not missing something.

Or are you simply going by the release photograph? The official release statement said the B units were #9001 and #9004 ... I wonder if the release photograph was of a prototype unit instead of the finished product.

No Frank I haven't received these yet, I merely placed a set on order from the dealer I work with down there. Yes I was going from the picture. If there is a difference from the picture and actual item, then I take back what I said above. I would however still like to see AZL come out with the CN passenger version of these F3's.

I suppose that when I get these on my tracks, and get them hauling my CN heavyweights it will be a good think, but because of the colour difference, it surely will look odd, and all those Canadian National employees who remember the F3 will scoff at using freight engines to pull passenger cars. These are not like steam that could be used for both since there were no significant colour differences. On my layout as we all do, I strive for realism and running these together won't cut it. Perhaps in my basement, but at a show, nope, won't work. C'mon AZL. You kicked out the one, now how about the other?

Does anyone has the answer to this question ? Anyone already received it ?

When I got my Santa Fe units they also listed a road number for the B units but are not printed on the unit itself.

Stock photos for the Santa Fe F3 do not indicate road numbers on the B units: zscalehobo.com/azl/azl_62902.htmlLooking all over Google I don't see road numbers on the ATSF warbonnet B units.

Was looking at box, believe B unit is listed as 16A and you are right not printed on the b unit so if you don't see it on the CN b unit photo I would not count on it.

Dave, If I'm not mistaken, if you get your magnifying glass out, you'll find the road number in fine print to the right of the door ladders.

The number being or not being there doesn't matter all that much although to a purest like me, it should be there to be true to the prototype. I'm more concerned with the name. That for me is the big thing. If the pictures I see are of the prototype, then I can understand however, if the actual B units are missing the Canadian National, then they are not true to prototype. I guess I'll find out soon enough when I get my set.
