Hi Rob, Does AZL have any plans on a CSX caboose? I currently don't model CSX but really like the SD70 spirit series and 8 cars @ 113 you can have a full train pretty cheap but no caboose If not, any suggestions on what might be appropriate of the current cabeese being offered

I'm not all that familiar with the eastern roads, but in the SD70 era would the prototype even be using a caboose in revenue service? I would have thought CSX would be using a FRED years before the SD70.

Mark is right, the FRED's would be more appropriate. On the other hand, the CSX still have a good inventory of cabooses. You will see them around, The safety series caboose like shown above can still be seen in yards. There are a number of different versions of the safety cabooses painted up and I would love to see more offered in the future. I did a quick search of photos of CSX SD70s. These two photos came up. What I like about this one, note the plain gray ACF 4-bays behind the locos. But, more importantly, the loco power! You have a CSX running with a UP flag! This goes back to way I say, mix and match away! As for the CSX 4-bay hoppers we are offering, they are still around in service, but in need of care. Here is an image of a very similar hopper from last year: And a slightly different version from this year! www.flickr.com/photos/126057675@N02/21095073034These would be a fun weathering projects! Rob

Rob's image is an interesting choice as if we are to believe Wikipedia, the Family Line was one of the first roads to use FREDs. I mention them because these cars look like they'd be ideal for a FRED project with the long car body. I picked-up one of these at NTS: www.modeltrainsoftware.com/fred.htmlMy plan is to replace the battery with 2 button NiCad cells and charge through a mini socket on the car bottom. Now if someone just had a few of these cars that were prototypically common on the west coast....

There are three cabooses that stay and/or frequent the CSX South Charleston WV yard. There are two CSX Safety Scheme and a Chessie bay window caboose. One of the safety schemes stays in the yard for switching and the other safety and Chessie caboose stay close by and are also seen on the mainline once in a while. I also saw a red bay window caboose in the yard one day but was unable to identify what road it was.
